...mind you, I'm researching a story that I shouldn't be trying to write, but -- I wanna. Which appears to be the theme of the week.

Tomorrow, a two-hour dental thing (Note to self: take Valium, bring bear) in the morning. The rest of the day may or may not be lost to Actual Work, depending.

Did you know that a German submarine came up into Old Orchard Beach during the '40s and tried to surrender, but it was wintertime and the landing team couldn't find a soul fool enough to be outdoors. So they went back to the sub, which proceeded to Wood Island Light, where the 'keeper was pleased to radio the proper authorities to come by and take the crew into custody.

When you say 40s, do you mean 1945, or something like '48 and they'd just been hiding for three years...

Can't actually say: I wasn't researching the sub; it was one of those Weird Things that popped up as a side issue. A quick Google right now isn't giving me any dates, or an account other than the one I found yesterday. Could be apocryphal, but I like it anyway *g*
