And So the Day
Sunday, June 12th, 2005 10:43 amThe ants are still winning. This whole Superior Brain thing isn't what it's cracked up to be, at all...
Did some quick SRM bookkeeping, threw in a load of laundry and am about to retreat the couch and the continuing cold read of Crystal Dragon. It's going well so far, and the story is much better than I remembered from the writing side, but it was ever thus.
I've caught a few continuity glitches -- a character described as shabby inexplicably acquires a hand-full of rings, which vanish again in the next scene; another character described as ill and barely standing is miraculously cured without even a cup of tea to help them along -- minor stuff, really. There are, as always, some Embarrassing Sentences, but that's just Technical Tweaking. The major problem so far is a matter of deliberately non-linear storytelling in the prologue, which has confused two of two readers, and thus needs to be addressed -- somehow. Making Everything Linear is not, alas, an option.
Cloudy today and threatening rain; the temperature a blessedly cool 70 degrees(F). Here's hoping that yesterday's 95 was All Summer in a Day...

Pennyroyal? Cayenne? Tabasco?
Date: 2005-06-12 11:41 am (UTC)What *kind* of ants are they? Huge black 1/2" long monsters? Tiny speck-like brown ones? If it's the big juicy kind, call in an exterminator; you don't want an infestation of carpenter ants!
Best of luck!

Date: 2005-06-12 12:20 pm (UTC)Not, thank ghod, carpenter ants. Itsy little brown/black ants. I have the ichor of millions on my hands, and the karma's not looking good.

Date: 2005-06-12 12:59 pm (UTC)Boric acid is, of course, toxic for cats, but pennyroyal and cayenne are not. Basically, ants seem to hate any of the mints (pennyroyal is one). Wonder if ants hate catnip?

According to info here (http://www.stretcher.com/stories/980528a.cfm) catnip repels ants.
