kinzel is Doing Things with the air conditioner in the living room, and Max! has decamped from his usual lean against the scratching post and come into my office, where he's ascended Ultimate Base -- the file cabinets. I note that Mozart, who took up an early position in the cat hammock in the window next to where the air conditioner will exhaust, hasn't even opened an eye.

Today's chores include various phone calls that I don't want to make -- why can't these folks do email, like civilized people? -- and finishing up my tweak-and-twitch through Crystal Dragon. There will doubtless be more adjustments in my future, as the comments from the rest of the beta readers, and the editor, come in. However, now I know what the book's actually about -- not a bad thing -- and have achieved bonding with the words and sentences.

After much struggle and frustration, I gave up on trying to make sense of Adelphia's cable offerings. However, being forced to consider the matter at length, I came to realization that what I really like to watch are movies, anyway, so I signed up with NetFlix. The first batch of DVDs is due in today, they say, which is fast.

Also foretold in today's mail is the external hard-drive kinzel ordered for me. Eighty gig, which is big enough to entirely back up my internal hard drive twice. That'll do...

Yes, my cats are exceptionally fond of the top of the filing cabinet as a lookout post, too -- something to do with being able to keep an eye on me AND catch a sunbeam or two.
