I have been to the garden...

rolanni...and it is hot. The remote digital thermometer is copping to 97 degrees F (36C). The front-of-the-house air conditioner and the back-of-the-house air conditioners are both on -- and yes, the Desert People are allowed to laugh at such wimpishness.
This morning early, while it was only 80F (27C) or so, we had a round of playing in the dirt in the Cat Garden. This was much more challenging for![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
kinzel, who did the actual heavy lifting and digging and such, while I stood around making Encouraging Noises(tm) and occasionally transporting the rocks Elsewhere.
After the garden we did some general yard clean-up, thenkinzel made a pilgrimage to Home Despot while I did house chores. I am pleased to report that the dishes have been washed, Scrabble has been thoroughly brushed, the rest of the cats have been Adored, litter boxes have been dealt with; I removed the Zip drive from my computer, installed and tested the new external hard drive. Lunch (half an Arby's roast beef sandwich with horsey sauce, and half an order of curly fries, provided by kinzel) has been eaten, I'm showered, relaxed -- and lazy. So -- off to the couch, me, to finish up with Crouching Vulture, Leaping Loon.

Date: 2005-06-26 11:56 am (UTC)The average temperature in these parts for this time of year is 74F/23C. This is, IMHO, reasonable -- you can comfortably go outside, do the gardening, take a walk or whatever and not feel in danger of heatstroke. Today, it's much cooler, she said bitterly -- only 95F/35C -- which breaks another record. The old high temp for this date was 92F/33C, set in 1963.
To put this in perspective, I suppose I should mention that summer in the city of my birth could easily encompass temperatures from 102-105F/39-41C with 100 percent humidity. We moved north because neither one of us was evolved enough to take that kind of abuse, despite having been born to it.
