...started early with Yet Another Session of Irradiation for Rolanni, and may that be the last of that nonsense, thankyouverymuch; then what was supposed to be a quick stop at Waterville for Kinzel to renew his driver's license. This took several hours and yielded a "temporary" license; his new!improved! driver's license will be mailed to him in three to four weeks. This delay brought to you by the Patriot Act.

On the plus side, our authors' copies of the Local Custom audiobook have arrived! And there was much rejoicing! Also, the extra gig of memory for young Altair, which ought to make him dance.

I report, BTW, that I had a wonderful time with Howl's Moving Castle (the novel). This morning at the hospital, I began reading Anvil of the World, and I must say that your lad Smith is off to a good start, fried eels or no...

Down in the Eye Candy discussion, [livejournal.com profile] alfreda89 remarked that she had liked the original Del Rey cover for Agent of Change because Miri "felt right." This prompted me to (finally!) take a good scan of the photo of the portrait Sue Krinard (aka Susan Krinard) did of Val Con and Miri. It's my favorite picture of Val Con and Miri to date. I kept the photo on my desk at the newspaper and would tell the curious that it was a picture of my kids. True enough.

I refuse to be envious. Either my energy and brain comes back from vacation, or it doesn't, and my work stands as it is. Still, Janny Wurts does her own covers!

But clearly I need to try some of her books! 8^)
