A miserable day of which the least said, the better. Mecury in retrograde and all like that.

I will just mention that With Stars Underfoot is available in electronic format from Embiid, as of today.

Just to be silly, after a yukky day, I need to ask--there's an implication in CS that Rool and The Lady have children. What happens to them? Were these "future children"? Rool's children?

Wishing you a better day tomorrow.

Yes, I got it. There's a problem with the font set though. I'm reading on a Palm Zire72 with the newer version of CSpotRun from Embiid, and all of the dashes come out as "œ". And since there are quite a few dashes in the text, it's rather distracting. Any chance of a corrected version being re-posted?

I Am Only An Author, alas. What you need to do is write to the good folk at Embiid and explain the problem -- they have the means to fix it; I don't.

Ah. I hoped that as an author, they would listen to your report of feedback from your readers. Nevermind; I will email them directly.

In most cases, it's best for the person who is Actually Having the Problem to report it. That way, they know what they've said, and they get a direct answer, without a go-between gumming up the works. It's not that I want to be unhelpful, you understand, but I don't even own a Palm Reader, have only the vaguest notion of what CSpotRun is, and treasure a touching -- and obviously erroneous -- belief that one might change the font-set on one's own device until the look and feel of the book being read is exactly what one wants.

It's an interesting question. Unfortunately, I can't answer it without massive spoilers for Crystal Dragon...

IIRC, Rool Tiazan is referred to in ... I Dare? - as a great historical dramliz. I think Anthora was being favorably compared to him. And the clan they found is Miri's.

With many ebook readers, one can change the look and feel of the text to a certain extent. However, in CSpotRun - the software that Embiid uses to assure its DRM - there is little choice other than being able to choose between two sizes, and having either size either regular or bold-faced.

Hummm....must re-examine manuscript for plot, not merely plot flow...

(I'm afraid my left and right hemispheres have an LBb wall between them. The attempts to dig a tunnel are driving me crazy. Multitasking is in the toilet--I've become MALE, I can only hear or speak--not both!)

Oh, yes, I would think Rool has other children. But this is embarrassing, because I've Betaed the next Crystal book. I probably should know this, unless it was added in during the last pass. But my thought patterns are interesting lately, to say the least....

That must be soooo frustrating. How's the quest for a diagnosis and cure going? I really thought you'd be well on the way out of this by now. Silly me.

It's time to post again. I got very tired, and suddenly needed twice the thyroid support I was using after it went up again...and the nutritionist said: "Maybe you'd better discuss thyroid medicine with Ginger (the specialist)..."

The list to discuss with her is getting longer. Sigh. I see her tomorrow, barring really unfortunate circumstances.

The problem with the dashes has been corrected. If you redownload the file, the problem will go away.

And yes, I've already bought and read my copy. Sigh.

You know I keep thinking about breaking into your house and stealing that manuscript to read :)

It's changed--you can see a sample up on the Meisha-Merlin web site!

Apparently you assume that the publisher will not listen to its customers, but only to its authors. This thinking seems oddly hostile, or at least odd. True, the publisher is nowhere without its authors, so must do its best to please them. But has it not occurred that the publisher is also nowhere without its customers, so must do its best to please them, too?

To be fair, there are some publishers who don't listen to their customers. Of course, there are also some publishers who don't listen to their authors. I think that, the smaller the publisher, the more they listen to both their customers and their authors. Which is ...refreshing.

My experience has been that publishers don't listen to either, but maybe I've had bad experiences. I'd still always go first to the person providing the problem, rather than to one of their, um, suppliers. But I thought that comment hadn't posted, and I was half-pleased as I'd had time for second thoughts, so I'm certainly not going to defend it further.

Well, if you're thinking that the sample is the very first scene, no, it wasn't of the version I saw. These snips were a few pages in.

Ah. We weren't asked for any structural changes, though Meisha Merlin did decide to start the teasers with Chapter One.

Nope. I took it to La Sofia at the next Odd Friday. Ask her where it is!

I was being mysterious, but yes, technically, this is the beginning of Chapter One. But time is fluid in the Liadan Universe, and Many Things Will Be Revealed...

Her boys are already quite enterprising, being twins. All we'd do is suggest that this could be interesting, and they'd be off. And they're only toddlers.
