How many is an "unsavory number" of khaki shorts? This question brought to you by today's Chickweed Lane.

In another part of online comic land, I note with sorrow that "For Better or For Worse" will cease web syndication on September 1. And, no, it's really not worth subscribing to The Sentinel for...

As [livejournal.com profile] kinzel mentions elsewhere, the hardcover edition of Liaden Universe Companion, Volume One has sold out. Subscriptions for the softcover edition remain open. Many thanks to all the subscribers who are helping/have helped make this book a reality; we couldn't have done it without you.

A question for the group mind: We've been watching some anime now that we have Netflix. Specifically we've seen all available episodes of Fruits Basket, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service. I noticed that in each of these stories, there is one character who either is an American or who has a great many American characteristics -- in all three cases, this character is a young woman who takes a kindly interest in the heroine. Granted, my sample here is not large, but I wonder if this character is a staple of the form?

Back to work, me...

Bummer. What's your source? Is web syndication just the ucomics.com site (ugh), or will it also be disappearing from chron.com?

I knew she was planning to stop doing the comic at some point in the middling future, but it doesn't seem likely to wrap everything up in the next week.

www.comics.com says: On September 1st "For Better or For Worse" will be discontinued due to the fact that the creator has not renewed her contract with Comics.com. As of September 1st the strip will no longer be available on Comics.com and e-mail delivery of the strip will stop.

Who knew that the Houston Chronicle put its comics online? Thank you!

I knew she was planning to stop doing the comic at some point in the middling future,

I had heard she was going to be stopping the strip, but I had thought not until after the turn of the year.

My daily comics fix now consists of 2 Houston Chronicle "custom comics" pages, an set that I read on the Washington Post comics pages (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artsandliving/comics/index.html), and the miscellany of Chickweed, User Friendly, Two Lumps, Kevin and Kell, and Unshelved. I avoid comics.com when possible...
