Dragon*Con REPORT

Liaden Universe(R) authors Sharon Lee and Steve Miller attended Atlanta's Dragon*Con over the Labor Day holiday and came away with several copies of their own Liaden Universe® Companion as well as with great memories. Between wandering, signings, readings, lunch, breakfast, and dinner the duo shared time with writing colleagues Anne and Todd McCaffrey, Peter Beagle, John Ringo, Janny Wurts, Josepha Sherman, Janna Oliver, Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta, Selina Rosen, Melanie Fletcher, Jody Lynn Nye, and assorted other luminaries of the publishing field.

At the convention, Meisha Merlin's publisher and editor Stephe Pagel asked the authors to remind Liaden fans that pre-orders for the February signed hard-back edition of _Crystal Dragon_ are still being taken at the website http://www.meishamerlin.com with only the first 750 being available for signing...

Speaking of signing, the authors enjoyed multiple convention and dealer signings at Dragon*Con; Glennis at The Missing Volume (http://www.themissingvolume.com/ ) featured Lee and Miller for more than four hours over the course of the weekend!

Though New Orleans and Katrina were not out of mind during the convention, other news also came to the fore, including Peter Beagle's difficult situation:

While Lee and Miller were on the East Coast for Dragon*Con, their friend, colleague, and current SFWA President Robin Wayne Bailey was in Seattle attending NASFIC -- also known as ConCascadia -- where he accepted the Hal Clement Award for Best YA Science Fiction Novel of 2004 for Lee and Miller's _Balance of Trade_.

ART

Also while the authors were on the road, Thomas Peters, the cover artist for Liaden Universe Companion, Volume One, began offering full-color poster-sized prints of the wonderfully detailed cover art for sale. You can order direct from Tom, a low-resolution image and ordering information is online at: http://tpeters.com/

I don't remember seeing anything about sword of orion prior to noticing it on your upcoming releases, what's that one about?

It's about 75,000 words.

Ahem.

It's about a teenage girl whose parents were killed in the late war, and is living with her uncle, an insurance man. Our heroine is studying to be a spaceship mechanic, and has her life more-or-less All Planned Out. Alas, some folks who rather wish that the war had obtained a different outcome think that she might be able to assist them in their /n/e/f/a/r/i/o/u/s patriotic /s/c/h/e/m/e/s movement. Whether or not she's willing.
