Weekend? We had a weekend?

Let's see...

The Nameless Story now weighs in at over 6,000 words.

The house has been vacuumed, the laundry (mostly) done.

Cats have been skritched (but not enough).

Rose bushes have been trimmed. Got quite a bit to do yet on the rose bushes, says the non-gardner, cutting out dead stuff. The good news is that colony bushes have been established and are putting forth leaves. Score! There was probably a better way to have accomplished this.

Tomorrow's schedule is pretty clear -- more writing and another session with the rose bush after the gym-thing.

Now, it's time to get off this infernal machine and rest my eyes. (And skritch Mozart, who is Abused -- Abused.)

Your roses are gone already? Mine are just starting to leaf. They'll start blooming end of May/beginning of June and keep on -- 'til November, if this year is like the last few.

In general, I don't think you can do much harm to roses by cutting them back. You do need to protect the Root from cold. Which is probably not an issue for you.

I should know more about roses; my father pampered and fussed over his spoiled hybrids all summer, and fretted about them all winter. Me, I wanted to cover the many-times restructed hill, and thought sea roses would be nice, being essentially a weed that will grow in sand for ghod's sake. Carrying out the plan involved shopping the Agway Last Flowers of The Summer, Buy 'em Now, or They're Compost Sale for a couple years and digging holes for two sea roses and one tea rose, which have happily conspired for World Dominion. Another second sale tea rose is doing well, and I expect it to join the conspiracy in a year or two. A third sea rose has been "killed" twice -- once by woodchuck and once by lawnmower. I thought it was gonegonegone, but dern if it isn't putting out tendrils! Go, Tiger Rose!

Well, the roses here pretty much have some blooms all year, though fewer in Jan-Feb, but with the first heatwave in March, they went nuts.
