Scattered Day

Steve and Dulsey got home lateish last night, and Dulsey had her first vet appointment scheduled for early this morning. The plan was to get her distemper shot over with and introduce her to Dr. Slack. We did introduce her to Dr. Slack, but the distemper shot has to wait until the respiratory infection she picked up is taken care of. Pink Stuff(tm) and eyedrops prescribed. We know the drill. I only wish that there existed a Magic Elixir like Pink Stuff for us two-legged types.

Home from the vet, then Steve ran errands while I tried to make the Isolation Room a bit more comfortable, and spent some bit of time assuring the Cats-in-Grade that they were not being replaced, and that it was in fact their excellent job performance which had convinced us to take on another helper. At this writing they remain, largely, unconvinced. Scrabble in particular is chary of the wisdom of taking on a Direct Report, and spent a considerable part of the day sulking in the basement. She's now at her usual post atop the file cabinet in my office, supervising.

Steve came home with fried chicken and biscuits for lunch. Eye drops were administered, some bookkeeping done, and then naps all around. Woke and did some writing. I am not a NaNoWriMo participant; I just happen to be writing again, and -- it actually feels pleasant. This is a Good Thing.

And now -- a glass of wine, and early to bed.

Eventually, the full story will be... somewhat disclosed.

As the driver, I think I can disclose the following:

Dulsey -- came from Pittsburgh, via Carlisle. She comes from a right noble bloodline, according to the folks at Kennebec cattery, and is, I think, very young and foolish. The position was not advertised, and was created in order to spread the workload for felines in house, some of whom are approaching various levels of semi-retirement.

One perceives that Dulsey will have spent her earliest youth (well, perhaps not her very earliest) living in proximity to purrsons of quite unexceptionable melan'ti, a circumstance which must do much to recommend her to the notice of the current staff, once she has been properly tutored in her new duties as Youngest.

One further confesses to a really shocking level of curiosity as to whether Dulsey is more closely related to the young man from the July litter or the August sisters mentioned on the Kennebec (cattery) website? ;-)

Dulsey is, in fact, closely related to the young gentleman born in July.
