rolanni: (Marvin's not happy)
Yesterday afternoon, as planned, Steve and I met at Fortin's to peruse the tent sale. As a tent sale, it was...a little sparse; nothing in the way of either a nice scratch-n-dent bureau at all, nor even a reasonable bookshelf. Also? The prices on mattresses, even at a supposed Large Percentage Off, were...bracing.

Eventually, we left that place and wandered down into Waterville to visit the mattress store there -- which is only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. From there -- now we were on a Mission, you see -- we went to Marden's, where we found mattresses a-plenty. While we were meandering about, reading Product Information, my knee, um, gave out entirely. I grabbed onto Steve, who was happily to hand, and hung on, swearing, until the pain got manageable and I could walk, sorta. I limped out of the store, Steve found the Magic, Adjustable walking stick that lives in the back of the Subaru, adjusted it for me, and off we went to our meeting at the soon-to-be new market on Main Street.

It was an...interesting...meeting, and a joy it was to see so many young people on hand and willing to work. We signed up to help with PR/writing things. I had gone with the intention of offering my services as a Shellacker of Shelving, but the knee voted otherwise.

After the meeting, we limped -- OK, I limped -- up to the Bread Box, where we feasted on baked brie, fresh, hot crunchy bread, and a variety of fruit, with a nice Chilean chardonnay. Then we came home, and I fell on my face.

This morning, the knee didn't want to work at all, so I decided that the better part of valor was the comfy chair and an ice pack, rather than the day-job staff picnic. I can't seem to find my knee brace, which is aggravating, especially since I learn that the Very First Moment that an orthopedic doctor can see me is...July 2. So! I'm gonna be putting up with this for a while. I'll try not to whinge about it a lot.

I've done some office furniture shopping on ebay, and have some promising leads there. In the meantime, the cats are making a compelling case for a nap. I may just join them.

Hmmm, nap

Y'know, I don't get enough of these.

In a few minutes, it's back to the comfy chair, but first! I need to do dishes, rustle up some lunch, and munch on tidbits from the intertubes. Like this one:

Cat Valente went on tour to support her newest novel, Palimpsest and was everywhere greeted by readers wanting to know if the book referred to in the novel, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, was real. It wasn't, but, with your help, now it can be. Check it out.

OK, the US Government has decided to be upset about the Google Book Settlement. The Justice Department has sent out formal requests for information to various entities, including the Authors Guild, Google, and divers publishers.

But none to authors.

Can someone figure out how authors can get in on the fun, here? I love my publisher, but their interests do not necessarily coincide with mine in this matter; we have different necessities.
