Tell me something that will make me smile.

My little girl had her first day of preschool yesterday and had a blast. When I came home, she took me by the hand, pushed me into the couch and said, "There!", climbed up and snuggled into my lap with an air of complete accomplishment.

I also am almost finished with reading Gunshy and I LOVE it. And I'm not normally a mystery fan. Jennifer and Fox are becoming some of my favorite characters, up there with Miri and Val Con. Both you and Kinzel are in the top five of my favorite authors.

I don't know if that made you smile, but I hope it did. You're writing makes me smile all the time. :)

A job well done deserves to be celebrated. I hope she had as good a time for the second day.

Caviar comes from virgin sturgeon
Virgin sturgeon's a very rare fish
No good sturgeon wants to be a virgin
That's why caviar's a very rare dish....

--------------------------------------
I could do exegesis on what makes a good sturgeon and why such sturgeon don't want to remain pure and all, but it's early and I'm pre-caffeine. :-)

Silliness: that's what I've got at 7 in the morning.

This morning Lilly (my almost two year old Siamese) decided to dress me, and started dropping clothes on my head in an effort to wake me up. Despite a small sock fiasco -- I refuse to wear two pairs at once -- she actually did reasonably well, and everything I am wearing was Selected By Cat.

Also, I have a very large praying mantis in a tank on my desk here at work now.

What are you wearing? That is utterly amazing!

Blue jeans -- this is usually the first thing she dumps on my head, I think because having denim hit me in the face often wakes me -- white bra, green and orange argyle socks with spiders on them, a black shirt that reads 'Sweet and Sinful Candy Shop est. 1693', and electric orange undies.

Lilly is quite arguably insane, but I'm very fond of her.

All right. What did Lilly dress you in?

Very cool. A permanent resident, or just a visitor?

The mantis lives here, but does not yet have a name beyond 'this is my friend THE KILLER BUG'.

They've discovered a new species of shark off the Great Barrier Reef of Australia.... a walking shark. (Lawyer jokes keep popping into my head now.)

Things that always make me smile ...
aardvarks, giraffes, platypi, meercats, kittens and puppies

and Wednesdays.

Wednesdays are my favorite day of the week because that was the day we went to the library when I was in the 4th grade - the first year I was allowed to get books from the "real shelves". In an effort to expose us students to art and culture, the librarian would put reproductions of famous statues on the library tables... I always sat at the table where she put the "Laughing Buddha" and first and last thing of every visit, I would rub his belly - not for luck, but because he made me laugh.

a walking shark. (Lawyer jokes keep popping into my head now.)

...and I thought Laurie Anderson made that up!

"What did the snake say? Yes! What was he saying? OK. I will tell you. The snake told her things about the world. He told her about the time there was a big typhoon on the island and all the sharks came out of the water. Yes. They came out of the water and they walked right into your house with their big white teeth."

Last night as we were winding down after choir (i.e. lying flat as pancakes on our respective couches watching HOUSE) Kelly suddenly said: "Baddolly's going to come for breakfast with us tomorrow. She's picking us up in her car!"

And I replied, "What, did she just send you a telepathic message?"

To which Kelly said, "Yes!"

Who knows what those two get up to? Good? Evil? All I know is there's lots of cleavage involved.

Yesterday was not only Talk Like a Pirate day, but Hermione Granger's birthday.

So Tom Smith wrote a song about it.

http://filkertom-itom.blogspot.com/2006/09/008-hey-its-cannon.html

When I followed the link from Peg Kerr's journal, the toddler belonging to the friend I was visiting insisted on sitting on my lap to listen to it.

And after I followed the link to the official Talk Like a Pirate Day Athem and she listened to That on my lap she went Arr.

Then toddled off to play with her pirate booty of Mardi Gras bead necklaces.

When I returned from my (10-day) honeymoon, one of my cats purred for two days straight. Really - I'd wake up in the middle of the night and he'd be purring beside me. We'd never been gone so long before.

So I love this website--de-motivators. It amuses me greatly, and so i thought I'd share. http://www.despair.com/viewall.html

i parituclarly like:

Regret: It hurts to admit when you make mistakes - but when they're big enough, the pain only lasts a second

Pretension: The downside of being better than everyone else is that people tend to assume you're pretentious.

Madness: Madness does not always howl. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "Hey, is there room in your head for one more?"

Hope the day improves. I'm giving a final to my victorian lit class right now. So I'm better than they are. At least I've got that :)

Thanks for the link!

Limitations: Until you spread your wings, you'll have no idea how far you can walk.

Cluelessness: There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

The day has improved -- thank you for your part in that.

Well, *I* find this funny--a blog entry from a woman who writes knitting books, who, while on a book tour locked herself out of her hotel room . . . in her underwear. I can't read it without chortling.

(Oh, and this is the first time I've commented, but I've been enjoying your books for years--keep rereading them--and found your blog from the Korval page. --Deb)

The Purist by Ogden Nash

I give you now Professor Twist,
A conscientious scientist,
Trustees exclaimed, "He never bungles!"
And sent him off to distant jungles.
Camped on a tropic riverside,
One day he missed his loving bride.
She had, the guide informed him later,
Been eaten by an alligator.
Professor Twist could not but smile.
"You mean," he said, "a crocodile."

My older kitty, half Maine Coon and very dignified (usually), woke us up the other night because he was conversing with his poofball toy. Deep "Mer-oooow" followed by higher-pitched "Meeer-ow"... deep "Mrow", higher "Mreeou". This continued until, I guess, he tucked the toy into bed between me and my husband so it could sleep.

P.S. I'm, er, [livejournal.com profile] alfreda89's friend who wouldn't be stalking you on LJ but couldn't resist your kitties!
