About the Texas Race for State Comptroller

The Democratic candidate for State Comptroller of Texas, a person named Fred Head, is running a heated campaign against his Republican opponent, one Susan Combs. It seems Ms. Combs had, a decade ago, published a romance novel with Kismet, said book entitled A Perfect Match. It pleases Mr. Head to characterize this novel as "pornography," and to label his opponent a "pornographer." He also indulges in other name-calling, such as "two faced, hypocrite" (original punctuation), and identifies a copy of the cover of Ms. Combs book as "Republican Opponent Pornographic Book Writer Susan Combs."

Mr. Head is quite het up on the whole subject, and seems particularly offended that Ms. Combs novel features her "name at the top of every other page."

One wonders what planet Mr. Head hails from and whether they have novels there.

WHY can't we get some Dems with intelligence to vote for? Susan Combs is a person who leaps for the opportunity -- she owns a ranch and got herself appointed to a committee the makes big decisions on pasture land, I believe it was. And she was a state senator/rep at one point. Like many people, she forgot everything she'd promised by the time her feet hit the chamber floor.

Which is why she's now Sec/State.

But at least she's intelligent enough to know something about publishing. I'm stunned this guy's staff didn't try to hold him back. (Perhaps no one on staff bothered to get info on this?)

I doubt she's gonna play with the results, a la the suspected Katherine Harris. Too many people watching here -- and the current comptroller is one of the governor candidates. She's a tough grandma and will call foul with the slightest provocation.

I guess this means that our gentle sex scenes in our ADULT level novels will come back to haunt us, too...and I've been to a counselor -- that's gonna be a black eye...

...Idiots...plural...I am so looking forward to it all being behind us, however it turns out.

I especially liked the bit about her name being at the top of every other page -- My God! Is there no end to the arrogance of the woman! *laughs and cries*

Plus, the photocopied "extraxts" from the novel on display (is that a copyright violation, by the way?) wouldn't make a nun blush. If that's the sort of writing that turns Mr. Head on, he needs to get out more.

And, honestly, this is the comptroller's race. You'd think the voters would be interested to learn which of the two of them can add better...

seems obvious which one knows how to spell and punctuate.

At least Kerry Healey is attacking Deval Patrick on something real - unfortunately, it's something that shows he has a real grasp of the constitution and a modicum of personal integrity.

I wish that old Pol' Granny was running for re-election. She grabbed those legislative idiots and rattled their canes. Would not sign off on a budget that wasn't balanced and explained where the funds were coming from.
