Fair Wind Warning

Yesterday was wind and rain, rain and wind. Last night was wind, and this morning, too. So it was not exactly a surprise to find out that the internet was missing when I sat down at my computer to collect the email and read the comics.

After much fiddling and faddling with the router and the cable box, we did finally rediscover cyberspace, but a glance at the local paper's online edition tells us that there are outages all around us, so if I suddenly vanish in a puff of blue smoke and gray sparkles, that will be the reason.

Our lights have blinked a couple of times this morning, debated powering up computer. Have gotten in habit of shutting down every night, as large number of outages in apparent good weather evoked nasty remarks from not the computer, but the AOL system, such as "Input AOL 9.0 again". I don't have such a disc, downloaded from AOL to the best of my knowledge. Fortunately, various jiggling of keys and screens finally got the machine on-line. Are you aware of Ringworld by Niven? One of the characters had been bred for luck, name of Teela Brown. To get out of any possibly deadly situation, she would hit keys at random or fall into the keyboard, hitting with her face by accident. The powering up makes me feel like that.

Power hasn't gone down, since I started turning things off at night. That's another writer, who I can't remember now.
