Over the last couple weeks, LJ has told me, through its nifty new message board feature, whenever anyone has friended me. That's nice, and pleasant, and in general I love this feature.

But. On three separate occasions, people have supposedly friended me who never showed up in my flist. And. The same person has now been reported by LJ to have friended me five times, the latest instance just today -- and has never, not once, turned up in my flist.

Is this happening to anybody else? Is it just annoying or really creepy?

These are assholes people running scripts -- they take the Latest Posts feed, add anyone who updates publicly, and then drop them in an hour or so to add more people. It's for no purpose other than annoying people.

If you ban them (http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console/ and type "ban_set (username)" without the quotes or the parens) you'll stop getting the notifications when they friend you :)

Why do people DO that? I don't understand it. (Only happened to me once - I friended them back then dropped them when I found out they had no clue as to the use of the lj-cut).

In my considered, rational, professional opinion, it is because people are assholes.

(I could write a book on LJ Troll Culture. I will someday.)

I got tapped by one of these guys today. Strange people. Nice to know about the ban command.

I didn't even know this was an available feature. Now I have to go and find it.
