The office phone rang at 11 p.m. last night. We had been at work late and were, happily, awake. But still, with elderly parents and a sibling whose diabetes is not under firm control in the mix, a phone ringing at 11 p.m. is ...noteworthy. (Why is it, I wonder, that we always assume that late night calls are bad news? Does nothing bad happen during the day? Is there no joyous news that must absolutely be shared at midnight?). Anyhow, we go back to the office and listen to a recorded message from "Tim," inviting us to call him at 866-628-9678 anytime between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. PACIFIC Standard Time to chat about consolidating our debt.

Tim, if you're reading here -- in Maine, solicitation, spam, and junk phone calls are disallowed after 9 p.m. EASTERN Standard Time. Please adjust your phone 'bot accordingly.

In other news, thanks to the efforts of innerbitch_rss and sleary, there is now an RSS feed for all things Fledgling.

Speaking of Fledgling, I note that it's now funded through 65% of Chapter 14. The response to this project has been nothing short of amazing. Thank you all.

And a request...If someone out there has the time and inclination to make a carousel horse icon for me, I'd been very grateful.

And now -- back to the bookkeeping. *sighs*

We've all been on pins and needles since last summer about the adoption and we now know that the birthmother has got a boy on the way. Still I hope that, no matter what the time is, my sister-in-law will call us when the birth happens, which should be Real Soon Now.

My brother once started getting weather reports on his cell phone that he hadn't signed up for.....at 5am every morning.

When he called to complain, they claimed they were being sent at 8am. He pointed out to them that he was in Seattle, and they were sending them at 8am Eastern, which for him was 5 in the bloody morning.

My husband keeps getting calls from Virginia Tech, always in the afternoon. That sounds okay, except I've explained to them that he doesn't get home until 7:00. Can they call after then? Well, as far as they are concerned, they are calling after 7:00 and they can't understand that it's not that time in California. Now, these are supposedly students in the chemical engineering department. Doesn't one have to have some level of brains to get into a chemical engineering department?
