Sixteen hundred words and small change. End of chapter. That's really enough fun for me for one day. I do wish I could learn to be one of those lightning-fast writers.

Or at least a somewhat-faster writer.

Tomorrow, more writing. I hope to finish another chapter, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do it.

I'm not getting as much -- or even any -- writing done in the evenings as I want, and had hoped, to do. It's not that the dayjob is so demanding, but that there's bookkeeping and various bits of administrivia that needs done for SRM, which winds up chewing up the couple hours I have between, "Lucy, I'm home!" and "Say Goodnight, Dick." That means the weekends are pretty much devoted to writing, and the weekend, I discover, is only two days long. When did that happen?

Over the last couple days -- loot! in! the! mail! Two copies of The Tomorrow Log mass market from Amazon.com! One copy each of An Assembly Such as This, Girl Genius, Volume One, and Coyote Run's self-titled CD. I'm grateful that the loot came in two deliveries, which spared me the agony of choosing whether to start An Assembly... first, or to dive right into the adventures of Agatha Heterodyne.

It occurs to me that some people wouldn't have recognized this as a choice, much less an agonizing choice...

I'm sorry I'm not getting to LJ as much as I had been. What's going on with y'all? Gimme all the news that's fit to print!

What have I been up to?

Last weekend I traveled to Guelph, Ontario with friends to teach, learn, and dance at a Reniassance Dance workshop (SCA event), and we had a fabulous time with good food, good friends, and much silliness. Details were posted in my journal yesterday, including a link to a video of myself and two friends doing a lively italian renaissance dance.

I was particularly struck when my friend Sarah observed that all 5 of us sharing the hotel room (which had 2 queen beds and a sofabed) were reading in bed before going to sleep, instead of watching TV, and it really made her feel that she was among friends.

On thinking about it, virtually all of my friends read for pleasure, despite the fact that reportedly only half of the US population does so these days.

On a related note, one of the buttons I bought at Penguicon reads: "Naturally you're out of book space. Everyone is always out of books space. It you're not out of book space, you're probably not worth knowing."

(The other button I couldn't resist picking up says: "I'm not pompous; I'm pedantic. There's a difference. Let me explain it to you...")

How funny--I just finished re-reading "An Assembly Such as This" yesterday. It's not perfect, but that entire trilogy is wholly enjoyable. In fact, I'm on my third re-read of the entire set right now . . .

I also just started a contest on my blog--which, really, you'd probably on be interested in if you knit, since the prize is some really delicious sock yarn. But still. I'm manually entering my reading lists from 1996 to present into the computer, and the contest is to guess how many titles there will be by the time I'm done. (Hey, it amuses me, anyway.)

My vote is that you should start with Girl Genius. Agatha, yay!

Well, Mr. Darcy got first read, because -- he arrived in the first shipment.

You will, however, be delighted to know that I am now reading Agatha and find her delightful. Unfortunately, that means I want to get all the rest of Agatha's books (and Mr. Darcy's, too for that matter), and that's just...not in the budget.

Have no fear.

There is a manga-format book out there reprinting all of the first 10 or 11 issues, but it's in black&white.

If you want, I can lend you the trade paperbacks. I've got them all. Once you've gone thru them, you can read the rest of the story on the web.

That's a very generous offer, Serge. I accept :-)

They'll be on their way tomorrow. Your address in the SFWA Directory is still valid?
