rolanni: (Sorceress detail)

I have passed my six month probation. Go me. I also had a very pleasant chat with the woman who hired me, and though the purpose of the whole ritual remains a little vague, it was certainly not time wasted.

Those who listen to podcasts may wish to visit Forgotten Classics, where Julie Davis does a lovely job with such material as Topper, The Black Moth, Life Among the Savages -- and Scout's Progress.

For those who peruse this journal for information on projects-in-progress, a question. What would you like to see/read about such projects? Does a naked status bar satisfy you, or do you long for something else? Go ahead, tell me your wildest fantasies. I don't promise to adopt any particular format, but I'm curious -- and who knows what might happen?

Why short-term reviews?

Not sure it applies in your case, but at one large higher educational institution, the purpose of the initial review was as the final chance for the people hiring to easily move someone out of a position if they didn't fit. I.e., at this point HR would accept a supervisor saying that someone didn't work. After the initial review, though, firing someone became a lengthy process, involving warnings, corrective action, reviews, and whatnot. So the initial review was not really for the benefit of the person in the position, but a last chance for the supervisor to admit that they hired the wrong person.

Your institutional mileage may vary.
