Yesterday, the wind blew.

Then it blew some more, a real tree-shaking, adrenaline-pumping wind coming out of a perfectly blue, cloudless sky.

And then the power went out.

Um. Oops.

Happily, we had some time last winter acquired -- but never needed to use -- an Emergency Battery, into which Sabu and Steve's laptop, the venerable Toshiba Satellite, were plugged and work went forward in the windswept quiet. It's odd how noisy the house is, just as a regular thing: the rattle of computer fans, the refrigerator muttering to itself. I sat on the couch with Sabu on my knees, under an open sunny window, through which the wind, she did blow, bringing me the gladsome sound of the wind chimes in the elm tree and the clanging of the buoy bell off the porch. And the not-so gladsome sound of the neighbor's chainsaw.

We did cave in to pressure from the cats and took a brief nap around three, which naturally was the cue for the power to reassert itself.

The wind died over the next couple hours, and the temps fell into the forties (F) on the overnight. Today is bright; breezy without being Totally Rowdy. I have some errands to run, and then back at the computer for another run at Duainfey.

The day-job goes back to full-time tomorrow. Don't. Want.

Day job period. Don't. Want.

40s/breezy sounds heavenly. Sunny and cool sounds heavenly.

I try to remember to be grateful. The day-job pays the health insurance, keeps roof over head and the so-important cat food in the so-important cat's dishes.

It is, however, Absurdly Hard, sigh. I'm a Bad Person.

We got a nice soaky rain on Friday, which was useful. Been terrible dry in this part of the world. The butterfly garden is doing well. Very pleased with the butterfly garden, are we...

On a totally non-related topic - any idea when the next Liaden Universe News goes out? I had some trouble with the list software on fireopal.org the last couple of days - it looks like it was one specific list that was broken, but I'm being paranoid. Either give me a direct heads-up when you send it, or carefully watch for it to come back to you, and let me know if it doesn't show up in a reasonably period of time? Reasonable should be no more than a couple of hours.

We need to do an InfoDump RSN, if only to let the folks who pre-ordered LUC2 that it's going to be late, due to Stoopid Printer Tricks. Will give you a head's up when it goes.
