The Class of 2011 is now on campus.

That's...just scary.

I do offer, for whomever would care to make this note: The reason the graduating class insists on having its We Did It final party on the steps of the library? Is because the Very First Welcome Ceremony and Bonding Exercises take place -- on the steps of the library. Closing the circle isn't just a pretty metaphor, folks. Sheesh.

Not much else to report, except that it was hot again today -- oh! and I was able to pass the entire day without having to unpack a crate or schlep a box, though I did supervise the hanging of the kitchen.

...hanging the kitchen, eh? The literal me who is the world's best straight man, er, woman, quickly rejected the vision of range and refrigerator suspended from the ceiling (but notice not before ever having it!) Eventually I thought of pots and pans. Whew! You just never know...

I was wondering what the kitchen had done that was so bad it needed hanging as a punishment *g*.

This being the Office Kitchen, there is no range and a new refrigerator is on order, but --

Back before the Great Renovation on our hallway, we, the-faculty-and-staff of the History Department, had a little built-in corner "kitchen" in the cavernous central room that also held the faculty mailboxes, printer, supplies, extra work table and the ever-popular etcetera.

The kitchen was a cabinet wall unit with a cut-out for the microwave, and a place to bolt the coffeepot on the underside, and a counter-top floor unit, with a cutout for the fridge.

The floor unit did not survive the Great Renovation (neither did the refrigerator), but the wall unit came through fine. It's been sitting forlorn and useless in the new, much smaller common room, taking up needed floor space.

So, yesterday, when the carpenters were on the floor, I had them hang the kitchen...
