The Royal Cats of Russia

The Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia, is famous as the palace of Empress Catherine the Great.

The greatness of its cats is the less well-known side of its astonishing story.

They have been here since the 18th Century. Fed up with rodents running through the palace, Empress Elizabeth sent out a decree that the best ratters in Russia should be sent to St Petersburg. The first to respond are thought to have come from the city of Kazan - then apparently famous for the rat-catching skills of its cats.

Younger Son, who wants to grow up to be a cat, brought back many pictures from his St. Petersburg trip that included Hermitage Cats.

It's always wonderful to see that there are other ppl out thre taking care of cats, even in such prestigious surroundings.

How are you doing? Either I've been missing posts, or you haven't had the strength or heart to post. Hang in there. I am asking the universe for health and wealth -- we could use both.

I am still having a bit of ADD that may make a job scary -- when I can't remember how to operate software, we got a problem.

I'm doing ...all right. I haven't been posting a lot because -- essentially working three jobs, between The day-job, the stuff I do for the SRM Publishing Empire, and the various things that need to get written. I'm thinking my head's going to explode right soon after we turn in Longeye in...March?

That might be a problem. I am noticing that a touch of ADD is an asset, though -- at least where I work.
