Bloo Food with Coon Cat

Found a brace of blue potatoes in the bin. Forgot I'd had them. Well. Blue potato salad with red onions is festive, right?

From the Department of Good News/Bad News:

* A gift check from the parental units arrived in yesterday's post -- much appeciated!

* The Subaru's windshield cracked straight across while Steve was out running errands.

* The windshield place gave us an 8 a.m. Christmas Eve appointment, with promises that the new windshield will be in by noon.

* We'll have change back from the check.

And, in a rare concession to the Season, Mozart agreed to sit for a portrait, with the Toy of the Moment, a yellow plush rattlemouse :

Cars always seem to have this notion that excess cash belongs to *them* -- have you noticed?

[identity profile] rolanni.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
What I've never been able to figure out is how they know...

I always envisioned an invisible pseudopod from my Grand Prix directly into my bank account. It would kind of "taste" the balance, and then suck out the whole thing plus ten dollars. It was an amazing feat, however that car managed it.

Blue Potatoes?

My ignorance is showing.
I've seen green furry potatoes, but blue?
Are they safe to eat?
Nice fur person.

Oh my, yes. Potatoes come in all varieties. Here's a link:

http://potatoes.wsu.edu/varieties/

Different tastes and textures, all falling within the general outline of yummy "potato-ness." Some great for baking, some for mashing, some for boiling...

They are all of them nutritious, too. So have a potato once in a while and don't feel guilty about it!

Gee, blue potatoes are commonplace up here, but I can't really find you a good pointer, so -- maybe not so common out in the wide world. They're quite good; a bit starchier than white or yellow potatoes, so not so great for potato salad, but one does what one must. They have a faint cinnamony undertaste, which is surprising but not unpleasant.

Nice fur person.

He is, actually, but it's tough to get a good picture...

The windshield crack'd from side to side.
"The curse has come upon me," cried
The Lady of East Winslow.

And you _definitely_ should have a panel on Maine Coon cats at the con.

And you _definitely_ should have a panel on Maine Coon cats at the con.

Well, it only took us about four years of suggesting the topic every year to get a panel on cat whisker collecting. We had a standing-room-only crowd by the time we'd worn the committee down. However, I'm not sure that Boskone's vision of itself can support another such, and I'd hate to push 'em to the edge. It is our home con, after all...

I read this to my wife and she squealed that she had a cat whisker collection...

A surprising number of people do have cat whisker collections. To the folks who don't, however, the entire concept is apparently...weird, if not outright distasteful. At the least they suspect that you're having fun at their expense.

Hopefully enough change to get something that still feels like a gifty indulgence.

It's the incorporation of all the modern computer technology into the cars that does it -- along with everything else, the auto companies also added the infamous Detect Money Chip.

Exactly. And sometimes they have a little light that turns on to let you know the Detect Money Chip is functional.

Ugh, sorry to hear about the windshield. At least the check will cover it. Let's hear it for generous relatives!

Mozart is totally beautiful.

Mighty fine fellow, that Mozart. His paws seem big.

Yep, he has the Patented Coon Cat Bigfoot(tm), tufts between the toes and all. Maine coon cats are uniquely adapted to survive in Maine, which means, among other fine features, nice big feet to spread their weight out over the snow.

How much does he weigh?

He's right around 15 pounds.

[identity profile] scaleslea.livejournal.com 2007-12-24 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Only 15 pounds? He's Tiny! The fellow in my icon consistently weighs in between 18 and 20 pounds. He's our coon cat with patented BigFoots that he likes to hang off of my shoulder...

Doc

[identity profile] rolanni.livejournal.com 2007-12-24 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Well...not tiny. Scrabble, now -- that's Scrabble in the icon -- weighs in at 7.5 pounds, which is tiny. OTOH, not a Maine coon cat...

Remember back before the Maine Coons when a 10 pound cat was too fat? Now all other cats look like dwarves...

Here on left coast, car insurers will cover a windshield without deductible as it is a safety issue. Did you contact your insurer????? And save parental check for something more fun???
