Joggers and their dogs surrounded by a wolf pack. Not for the faint-hearted. What gets me is the woman who keeps repeating, in tones of shock, "They weren't afraid of us..." Well, um, no, I don't suspect they were....

What were they thinking? "Oh, look! There's this wilderness trail where wolves have been known to attack dogs. It's the perfect place to go jogging with the family pet!"

Idiots.

Yes, and it's because of idiots like this that these wolves are now going to be hunted down and exterminated because, oh look, they were living in the wild where they ought to be and stalking things that look like prey to them.

SOmetimes I despair of people.

On a par with the idiots in Florida who think its fun to toss marshmallows to the alligators. Then they wonder why someone gets an arm ripped off. (It also makes the golf courses interesting because of the obvious confusion with golf balls, given that the alligators infest the water hazards ... (water double hazards?)

Well, she did say she was rainbowing her pepper spray -- do you suppose the wolves didn't recognize that brand?

This does seem like an argument for some kind of training in "You can be hurt or die. And reality can do that. So pay attention."

Incredible.

Natural selection ought to have removed SOME genes from the pool. This evidence suggests that the creationists actually might be right. How could such stupidity have survived the savannas of Africa. (Though it does explain why the protohumans left their nice safe trees!

Idiots. Then again, when your normal world is so safe and civilized (in spite of the Holidays-induced behavior in parking lots around the nation), you may tend to forget that wilderness means not domesticated and not playing by our rules.

That being said, my best Holidays wishes to you and Steve.

To be fair, it wasn't clear whether the sign went up before or after the women went jogging--whether in general it was public knowledge yet that wolves were an issue there.

If another group goes jogging there, now, that would be more clearly foolish.

Wow, that was special

I have friends who live in mountain lion country, so I was already hip to why jogging through large predator territory with your dog might be a bad idea. Dogs are apparently considered tasty by most large predators, and something running is attractive to most predators. I hope that the ladies in that video do consider that pepper spray isn't that threatening to a wolf though. Unpleasant on the nose, but no less threatening than the hooves of a moose, which they brave all the time.
