We have a Heavy Snow Warning for our little part of the universe, starting in earnest around midnight, and continuing until midafternoon tomorrow. Then we'll have a breather until sometime in the center of New Year's Day, and so on until Wednesday late-ish morning.

This being Maine, all of the above is subject to change without warning.

Steve and I went out early to gather provisions -- crabcakes, cold cuts, ice cream -- you know, the necessities. This afternoon saw useful tasks accomplished, though Mozart really wanted me to give over this bookkeeping stuff and go sit in the blue chair and read, dern it!

Funny thing about that. When Mozart first came to live with us, he couldn't figure out this "reading" thing at all, and tended to think it a poor excuse to ruffle pages in some poor coon cat's ears when he was trying to get some lap-nap done. At some point, however, he realized that reading meant I was staying in one place and he could get extra lap-nap points. Since that day, he's become downright demanding about reading. Which is a good thing, I guess. The days when I read eight books a week are long in my past. I'm doing well to read thirty books a year, so I need all the encouragement I can get.

I did get a little writing done -- and I do mean a little. But progress is progress, ayuh, and I'll take what I can get.

Stay safe, and warm, and dry, wherever you may be.

I've done the eight books a week thing, and am probably still reading close to that some weeks. There's a lady who cleans tables at the cafeteria at work who comments (at least once a week) about how I'm reading a different book every time she sees me. I haven't explained yet how I don't get much else done lots of evenings.

I'm sorry that you're not reading as many books these days, though I'm very grateful for the time you spend writing. I've just started unpacking my books and Barnburner and Gunshy were in the first box. Hope that some day, when other commitments are completed, there'll be another Jen Pierce story.
