Thanks to everyone who offered (and gave!) stars and support. Much appreciated.

The weekend has seen several things moved from the have-not-done to the have-done list.

1. The second-round papers for the re-fi went into the mail to the loan officer on Saturday morning, so we're free of the need to fill out any more paperwork on that front at least until, oh, Tuesday.

2. Caught up on all the Fledgling and Saltation related email (though not, alas, on any of the other backlogged correspondence), caught up the data entry pertaining thereto, posted the results, and (yet another) Rule Change on the Saltation page. Short form: In perusing the Baen contracts, we discover that the the cap for Saltation subscriptions is set at 1,200 books. That means that everyone who subscribed to Fledgling can also get a Saltation, so their books will match. That had worried me, and now I'm relieved.

3. Purchased Binjali the Altima a new muffler, new struts, new brakes, and a new headlight. Ow! Ow! Ow! But, hey! It's now practically a brand new -- and definitely safer! -- car.

4. Got some sleep, but I want more, on account of, well, I'm tired. Maybe in June.

5. Chopped onions and sweet peppers and froze them, because -- yes, I'm weird -- I find chopping vegetables soothing.

6. Went through the Baen contracts.

7. Wrote chapter eight of Longeye, sigh. Much stronger. So late....

The lasting fame and fortune thing -- still not yet. In blanket answer to those who asked, I think we may be talking degrees. That's grounds for an interesting conversation, but -- not tonight. At least, not from me, tonight. If somebody wants to posit a theory, go for it.

Also? Didn't quit the day-job this weekend. Didn't even come close.

I see a buncha new names in the flist. If you're so minded, step up and introduce yourselves and tell me how you happened by. If you're not so minded, that's OK, too. In either case -- welcome, enjoy, have fun!

I'm not exactly new, but I don't think I've ever introduced myself.

So, I'm May, and I'm a first year economics student in Manchester UK, though I'm originally from Singapore.

By the way, chopping vegetables is good fun. Chopping stuff in general is fun, though I don't honestly think that I'll ever actually chop up a human being--why get into trouble with the law when my characters can do it for me?

I happened by because your books were recommended to me earlier this year by a co-worker.I picked up Balance of Trade at Dreamhaven in Minneapolis last month* and am loving every word of it.

*Along with 30+ other books, which is why I'm just now getting around to it. I tend to drop serious cash whenever I'm at DH.

Similarly to May, I've been reading your blog for a few months, but haven't greeted you. So - hello! I'm Ada, and first found your books when my grocery-cum-department store had I Dare in the SF section. I picked it up, saw that I had failed to notice it was a sequel, and got everything else out of the library. I've recommended your Liaden books to a couple of friends, and will fill in the gaps when the reprints are out (including I Dare, which I sold for bookstore credit, in one of my phases of cleaning out bookshelves).

I'm a mid-thirties mother of two small fry in Portland, Oregon, which I consider my full time job at present.

Been rereading Agent of Change & Carpe Diem recently (Liad = comfort books) and have volunteered for an Intro to Liad panel at our local SF con next year. It made me wonder what other LJers liked it so did a search on Liad as interest and found your LJs.

I'm originally from Scotland but have been living in Western Australia for the last 2 decades. I've got a PhD in surface Physics and found your books a few years ago when I had a book voucher for the local SF speciality store (had had them recommended via the Bujold mailing list). Bought Carpe Diem, devoured, looked for rest whenever I could find them.

Hmmmm? Oh, yes. I'm Kat, aka Kat, ska Kat and my friends call me Kat. I've been reading the Liad books since a friend actually let them out of her possession about... hmmmmm... 12 years or so ago... with a "Have you read this? You've got to read this!" (now where have I heard that before? mmmmmm) Since then I kept doing periodic searches for Sharon Lee & Steve Miller because, being nobody's fool, when I find someone whose books I want to read five times or better I look for more books by them. (An author with a 10+ reread means I'll buy you in hardback when available, everyone else has to wait for paperback, sorry, I read 5+ books a week and have a limited budget)

At any rate, I ran across Fledgling and went "eeeeeeeeppppppp!", did an immediate print-out (having a thing about Printed Matter in My Hands, Thank You Very Much) and Wanted More (oh wait, I do that after every Liad book, I wonder if there is a connection... hmmmmm). Then came Saltation and for some reason I actually noticed the lj link there (probably the larger font... ::sigh:: ... as I've gotten older I've broken down and gotten reading glasses ::sigh::)... from that lj link, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Kitty Horde (actually it was StarWalker BitCat the ComputerKitty, yeah, yeah, it was all his fault) enticed me to skip over here. No, really.

I can't remember introducing myself or not, but ...

I've been reading your books since high school or thereabouts. I lost you all for a while but was so happy to find you and your books again. I've since introduced my mother, my nephew and my friends to your books because they are elegant thoughts and good reads.

Dru/Drew Miller here.

Been reading, ordering and hoarding my copies your books since Drew Ferrel introduced my mom and me to them...*gulp* 'lo those many years ago.

Now I'm writing and working on getting my first non-trunker novel published.

What does "flist" mean?

I'm a lawyer in California. I read "Local Custom" a few months ago. My sister-in-law gave it to me saying it was like Jane Austen in space. I would say more like Georgette Heyer. But it was a lot of fun. So I tracked down the other six books at the used bookstore, the public library, and on-line--though I wasn't willing to pay $40-$50 for some of them. I'm reading "Plan B" now and have "I Dare" on deck. I'm glad to see they are all being republished and I can buy my own copies all in the same version. Should I add that I haven't read Sci-fi since my 20s but I've very entertained by this series? I haven't figured out these on-line publications yet. Soon. I guess this all started 20 years ago. But obviously you are still finding a fresh audience.

I'm amending my own comment to say the Liaden oeuvre reminds me of a hybrid of Georgette Heyer and Robert Heinlein--which is not a bad thing.

Not sure anyone explained. The flist is a part of LiveJournal, where people who have declared you as a "friend" are listed. Mostly this means that your postings are automatically put on their "friends" page, which is a page containing all the recent postings by their "friends."

So the flist is the basis for the LiveJournal social networking. When Sharon says there are new names on her flist, it means that she looked at the list of people who regularly read her postings, and noticed some new names.

Does any of that make sense without a background in LiveJournal mechanics?

Well, I'm not new to Saltation, since I DID discover Fledgling first, but I am pretty new to the Liaden Universe. I read a lot of romance in all genres and a regular poster on the All About Romance board, lists the Liaden books as some he has read at least 10 times - since our tastes have matched more than once, I bought Partners in Necessity about a year ago as a starting point. Then went looking for the others and found SRM Publishing and Korval.com as part of poking around. However, since I had found most of the books by then, I was a bit late discovering Fledgling - I think it might have been half done when I found it.

I am heartily glad - as I'm the impatient sort - that I didn't have the loooooong wait for Plan B, etc.

I welcome the news of republication - I can get a set or two to lend!
