[livejournal.com profile] jaylake was diagnosed with cancer last week; the outlook is good (or as good as it can be with word "cancer" in play) he'll be undergoing surgery and various other unpleasantries in the next few weeks. Pull for him in spare minutes, right? Good thoughts do count.

The Instant Re-fi is on its way to becoming a reality. We're closing on Thursday morning at the credit union, and we'll even get a break on the monthly mortgage payment -- so, hey, we can budget in a breakfast out once every couple months on the savings.

I have updated the subscriptions for Saltation. Six hundred and twelve of the eventual hard copies have found homes -- only 588 to go!

In related news, as people realize that they ordered a copy of Fledgling and their wife/mother/boyfriend/SO/hamster also ordered a copy and really they only want one -- there are a few Fledglings available for adoption. If you missed subscribing and would like to, drop me a note at fledglingATkorval.com (where @ replaces AT). There are only a few of these, so do write first to make sure they haven't been Snapped Up(tm).

I see another buncha new names on the flist! Welcome! Pull up a chair, grab a drink, tell me a little bit about yourself and how you happened by, if the mood is on you. If not, that's cool, too.

I'm sporadically present here on LJ now and for the foreseeable future. The book that had gotten stuck has finally come unstuck, but I'm very close to deadline, and words to write before I sleep.

For those playing along at home...

*waves hello* Saw mention of your LJ somewhere on my friendslist, and I'm a Liaden fan, so I thought I'd pop over.:)

Hello there! My name is Ruthanne. I found you through [livejournal.com profile] arcaedia, and I'd been lurking for a while. Your involvement with the SFWA is terrific, and last entry's reader-writer contract was so wonderful that I finally decided to stop lurking and add you. :D

I'm in the process of trying to find an agent right now, actually, and am still sending queries to my hopeful favorites.

It's very nice to meet you! Keep writing. Seeing someone else successfully published always encourages me. :)

I realized I never introduced myself. I feel a bit embarrassed because my username is jelazakazone and while we are big fans, I guess I never thought I'd meet you (either in RL or virtually). We have two girls who both have names from your books. When I was looking for an LJ name, I thought to look to your books for the name, although we only had one kid at that point.

Anyhow, a while back I discovered that you and Steve had LJ's from your korval.com website, so I added you and have enjoyed your posts.

About me? I'm just a stay at home mom who reads, as time permits:)

JUST a SAHM?
I beg your pardon, but there is nothing JUST about being a SAHM! I am one retired from that career, so I know.
You and others like you deserve the most sincere admiration and gratitude from the rest of the planet. YOU are raising the future. With any luck, it will be at least half as bright as our beloved Authors of all things Laiden have made their universe.

Most humble thanks.......rant is over now ;-)

Thanks for your appreciation. I was being a little sardonic when I said that, but I guess I failed to use emoticons to convey that.

On the other hand, I am so busy with my two kids, I don't really have time for much else. I'm feeling quite dull lately:(

As a former SAHM I have to voice my opinion here. I've been working from home since my kids were 10 and 8 but I used to call myself a Child Development Research Psychologist Using the Paradigm of Piaget. ::weg::

Also flisted awhile ago, but didn't introduce myself.

Hi, I'm Kristen. I live in Maryland, do graphic/communications stuff for a local library, tend to lurk on LJ and comment occassionally, am a big fan of the Liaden Universe (can't wait for copies of Fledgling and Saltation!), wife of one, mother of two.

Good luck with Longeye... I have Duainfey scheduled for purchase asap. I'm happy you've come to a (what seems to be) a good working relationship with Baen. I kinda found you through Baen, since I'm also a big fan of Lois Bujold who hangs out at the Bar.

Cheers,
Kristen

The Slatation subscription is still a trade paperback, right?

We intend so. BUT. Since Baen will be printing, they have the option to substitute a hardcover, at their discretion.

I'm not sure I've ever introduced myself either. I've been lurking and participating in LiveJournal through Fledgling and Saltation...

My name is Barbara, I live near Chicago. I worked in libraries when I was young, now work in data quality in IT. I'm an avid reader, mostly of science fiction/fantasy and history (every century but this). The Fledgling LiveJournal is really my first participation in an online community - I was looking for new Lee/Miller books and got hooked...

I really, really enjoy these books.

Hi! I'm a middle-aged sf/f reader living in England and I discovered the Liaden books a couple of years ago and devoured them; now my daughter is doing the same! The downside to that is that she's at uni, and keeps borrowing my copies for weeks on end...

Introductions etc.

I am Spud's Mom, also Flash's and Izzy's, people usually call me Toni, except at the Vet's office where I revert to being Spud's mom. All the best to Jaylake and to the rest of you. Cancer is hard on the whole family, confusion and fear are not comfortable house mates. I wish you whatever outcome works out best for all.

Hi there, my name is Susan & I live in beautiful Newport on Sydney's Northern Beaches. I'm an IT pro who is currently "resting between engagements" (waiting for my next contract to pop up out of the ether). I love to do things with my hands(!) and I also love to read. Your books are amongst my absolute favorites - they are what I turn to when I'm sick, tired, bored, lazy, irritated . What I really want to know is, why does the Pope wear red shoes (and where can I get some)?

Actually, my infernal machine logged me off. That's me, just up there. Really, it's me!
