PSA: Fledgling & Saltation
Sunday, May 11th, 2008 06:19 pmSigh
Tomorrow is Monday. And things were going so well. Has anybody else noticed that this happens every dern week?
Today I received an email from a young man who wished to know what the "difference" was between the editions of Fledgling and Saltation that will eventually be coming to a bookstore near you, via Baen and the Simon and Schuster distribution empire, and those that will be mailed to subscribers from the authors.
The answer to that question is: Subscription books will be signed. This is a small and entirely inadequate way to say "thank you!" to all the people who believed in the projects and supported our work.
I'll eventually get this information up on the Saltation website, in case there are other curious souls out there, but ...not tonight.
I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend, be ye mothers or be ye not.
Me, I'm going to take a well-earned break from this curst machine and go wash the dishes.

Date: 2008-05-12 12:38 pm (UTC)2. ::head:desk:: Sorry, but I kinda figured that would be self-evident. But then, I have been around the block for a wee bit. ::stares innocently at the autographed books sitting at the very top of the third science fiction bookcase where no one is allowed to set their fingers upon them least they be bitten off.::

Date: 2008-05-15 02:30 pm (UTC)Actually, yes, the context was whether it would be worth it to subscribe for $25, or just wait and pick the book up in the store, since Baen will be publishing and distributing the finished book.
like where you changed "in order to" to "to" on page 47 and chopped that run on sentence into two on page 196?
...which could easily fill another whole book, even if I remembered to turn on 'track changes,' which I never do...

Date: 2008-05-17 03:44 am (UTC)The thing is, I read books blindingly fast. I did the last half of Carpe Diem, then all of Plan B+I Dare+Local Custom between noon and going to bed at 6 in the morning. (The eyestrain was rather unpleasant, though I didn't feel it while I was actually reading. Who needs drugs when you have a good book?)
Combine that with my limited budget and the temptation to wait for a $10 paperback vs a $25 other format book is strong. The temptation to get books out of our rather good local library system is even stronger. Finding out the books were signed was enough to help tip me over the edge. I don't doubt that there are other people out there debating, who will be influenced by the information.
