Eidolon Open for Pre-orders
The Yule 2008 chapbook, Eidolon: Adventures in the Liaden Universe® Number 14 , is now open for pre-orders. This chapbook contains two original stories: "Shadow Partner," and "Persistence." Each story features a well-known member of Clan Korval, portrayed as others see them.

Despite climbing paper prices, SRM has been steadfast in refusing to increase the price of its chapbooks. Unfortunately, it can't do much about the various alarums and excursions lately undertaken by the US Postal Service. So! The price for Eidolon is $10. In order to hold customer postage costs to a minimum, the chapbooks will be mailed by tracked Media Mail within the US and First Class to Canada, for a postage fee of $4.75. Overseas customers...shipping will be $7.

You may purchase Eidolon by one of the three following means:

1. By credit card or direct payment through PayPal to EIDOLON@KORVAL.COM (note this eddress). Up to three chapbooks will travel on one $4.75 postage fee.

In a world separated by a thin border from the lands of the Fey, Rebecca Beauvelley knows that for her younger sister Caroline to make a marriage beneficial to their family, a husband must soon be found for Rebecca, despite her crippled and useless arm. When her father betroths her to a cruel northern lord, she runs away with the charming elder Fey Altamire. Too late, Rebecca discovers that Altamire's intentions are far from honorable and that she has become a sexual pawn in his rise to power among the Fey and human lands. The husband-and-wife writing team, authors of the "Liaden Universe" series (e.g., I Dare), begin a new series that blends the fantasy and romance genres in one seamless whole. Not as far as I know at this time. Webscriptions for SRM Publisher books isn't exactly a Given.

And chapbooks are weird -- it's hard to charge enough for everybody to make money from them, when you're selling a whole electric novel for five bucks.

I wonder when Amazon will start showing the reprinted Ace editions. Nothing there yet as far as I could see, but with a December date for AoC I would expect them to be getting it there for pre-order soon.

Is there any word on the format for Fledgling (and Saltation)? I only ask because F is the only book with a date on your list which has no format.

I await next year's Worldcon with Anticipation *g*. (Yes, barring whatevers I should be there.)

Another untitled Liaden novel from Baen, is that something they have already commissioned? Is this the sequel to SP?

No official word yet. I have reasons to suspect hardcover, but that remains a suspicion at this point.

Ah, interesting, I looked for just Sharon Miller and then did a sort on publication date and it doesn't show it. Something odd in their search engine.

$11 is better than $21, and the exchange rate is still in our favour. So that's thirty-leven dollars (yes, that's actually how I thought of it!). I'll add a note to remind y'all that if it comes to more than that by the time it's ready to be posted let me know.

Thinking about chapbooks, is there any chance that Misfits will appear in hard copy? I have the electronic one, but it seems to me to be about chapbook size. Or is it destined to be part of a novel someday?

Gah. 11pm local time. I tried combinations -- Sharon Lee, Steve Miller, Sharon Lee Steve Miller, Lee Miller (that one turns up an author called "Lee Miller" as well as you two). No AoC unless I enter at least 'agent' as well, and then it shows up. But not in the publication date order! Longeye and Duainfey show up correctly in publication order, including the not yet released editions at the top.

There's either something off in their search engine or in their database.

Sequel to Scout's Progress?

Considering that was an inside straight, shouldn't the next one be a full house? Clan House, since we're being Liaden? Or royal flush? Clan Flush -- no, that's silly. Smuggler's Flush?

Or perhaps something from orbital mechanics? What's a Lagrange point called in Liaden space?

'Clan Royale' was the hand Vin Sin chel'Mara was trying to fill in the game of pikit against Aelliana.

'Smuggler's Ace' is another name for 'Little Jump' where a pilot barely phases the ship out, skims across hyperspace and returns to normal space. It requires a gravity well to act as catalyst and anchor. Of course the name derives from the Terran card deck, not the deck used for pikit.
