Day-job continues Beyond Insane. Yesterday's high-point was the milkshakes I hunted and gathered on the way home, and with which Steve and I toasted the fact that no perfessers had died at my hand. Score!

If you've emailed me regarding Eidolon orders, Saltation orders -- or, well, anything, actually...I have your message. Thank you for writing; I love you guys. No, really. Last night's choice of what to do with the jolt of milkshake energy was (1) answer accumulated email, or (2)work on Fledgling revisions. Theo won. Email might be on this evening's agenda. It could happen. In any case, I will answer; just be patient.

At the day-job, today is payday. That's something, eh? Oh, and my friend over in Trade Books at the bookstore writes to let me know that two copies of Duainfey are up on the New Books endcap. As I've yet to actually see Duainfey in the wild, maybe I'll stroll over to the bookstore and take a look. Maybe I'll treat myself to a mocha while I'm out, and take the long way back to the library. This is beginning to look like A Plan. And if Somebody destroys the photocopier while I'm out, well...tough.

I see on the weather map that the remains of Hanna Storm are due to scramble over Maine on Suday. Be a nice day to go to the ocean. Hmmm. *Grasshopper Writer and Deadline Writer set up for the best two outta three in arm-wrestling*

New folks on the f'list -- welcome! We're a little disorganized hereabouts, and never really cleaned up after Denvention. Right a chair, find a glass and make yourselves at home.

Everybody have a nice day. Stay outta trouble, if at all possible. If it's not possible...well, pick your hill, right?

Later.

This seems to leave open the question of Caped Avengers or members of the Assassins' Guild.

I think the only trouble I'm very good at staying out of is the sort that requires me to find an emergency overnight sitter for my son... I choose Winter Hill, as that's the hill I live on. Maybe that way I can have my trouble and my nights home with Bastian, too.

Good job not committing justifiable homicide at the day-job!

Duainfey hit Constellation Books today

Well, I just unpacked a "Duainfey" so it's definitely made it to Reisterstown, MD. I
don't have a digital camera so I can't take a photo for you - sorry! (Yes, I am a bit of a digital Neanderthal but pay-the-utilities took
precedence.)

A note about Hanna - she's probably going to
ruin half of the Reister's Town Festival. First time in festival history it will be rained on. :/

The only reason I have a digital camera is that the newspaper I occasionally freelance for requires its reporters to take their own pictures, so it's a Business Expense. It's also held together with a strip of red duct tape. V. chic.

I'm glad to hear that Duainfey is making it onto the shelves of Actual Bookstores -- thank you! I did walk down to the campus bookstore yesterday and take a peek at the New Books cap. It's a book!

Melant'i in the real world

Sorry to interject politics, but I immediately thought of you. In the Palin state trooper scandal (http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Story?id=5724378&page=2), Sarah Palin explained that the person who made the incriminating phone calls asking for the trooper to be fired was acting under her melant'i as Sarah, not her melant'i as Governor. (Okay, she doesn't use the terms, but she clearly has the concept down.)

I was looking for the proper spelling of melant'i, and I ran across this: is it authorized by you?

Looks like a cached Webscriptions page. So -- yes, authorized by us. Baen Webscriptions has all of the Liaden Universe novels through Crystal Dragon available in electronic format, and they do put a Significant Chunk of their books up for free to entice buyers.

Duainfey

I'm about 100 pages into Duainfey (courtesy a purchase through Amazon) and am finding it thoroughly enjoyable. It may well be the best book I've read this year - and since I go through 2-3 books a week, that's saying a lot. Thank you, thank you for the wonderful story!

I liberated a copy of Duainfey from the Borders in Columbia, MD. And, I did so legally so that the nice auctor people get their fair share (and the cats get fed). ; P

my pleasure, truly. Having started the book last night, it was difficult to come to work this morning. sigh... at least tomorrow's going to be rainy, so I've an excuse not to the yardwork.

This perfessor restrained herself from killing any administrators today. We did cheer this week as two got shipped off the the nether regions of somewhere, however. Boss Conrad will be talking to our Dean soon. She is too dumb to take the deal. We will dance and sing.

Duainfey spotted in small local-owned chain bookstore -- Schuler Books in central Michigan.

Ghod, is Admin going crazy at your school, too? What's with that?

Though, the Department of the Accumulation of Stuff did recently reduce the number of years that we-the-staff have to Save Paper. This makes me happy, and the interior of my Sekrit Closet looks Positively Cheerful, as there are now eight big Bankers Boxes in there marked DESTROY. Makes me feel all mad-scienc-y...

The last 6 or so years here have been "run the school as if it is a business". "Students, who cares about students." Can we turn a profit! (please note: I teach at a Community College for ghod's sake). They cancelled classes full of students to try to make faculty get on the band wagon. We are artists. They didn't seem to get that we will paint the wagon, we will create sculpture out of the components of the wagon, we will stand and sing "HELL NO WE WON'T GO", but we won't get on the wagon. It has been an interesting few years. Being unionized has been a good thing.

We have a new president. Boss Conrad has made a list.

I acquired my copy of Duainfey this afternoon, at the Borders in Palo Alto, as that happened to be where I took refuge from the heat for a while.

Just saw a copy of Duainfey in the Border's Books in Waldorf, MD. And a trade paperback copy of Plan B in a used bookstore.
