Alert auditors of this journal will recall that SRM Publisher has indicated its intention to publish Double Vision, a collection of Lee, Miller, and Lee and Miller short works set somewhere other than the Liaden Universe®. This would include such stories as "Candlelight," "The Day They Brought the Bears to Belfast," and "The Inventoried," among others, spanning more than 30 years.

The economy being what it is, SRM Management feels the need to do some market research before committing Body and Soul to the this project. So, the poll, below. Please take a few minutes to help Management clarify its thoughts and goals. As always, if you have comments and/or insights, feel free to post them in comments.

A Note: The options below do not include "electronic." This is because (1)we here at SRM Publisher do not publish ebooks; (2) the electronic rights of some of the stories to be included in the collection are already committed elsewhere.

Re. format: my preference is for MM paperback (as in LUC#1), it's a lot more portable than the others. However, if you can't do that then my preference is for trade PB with h/c close behind.

(I'm not actually an auditor of the journal, I read it on screen, although I suppose I could put it through a text-to-speech converter if you think that improves it *g*...)

I answered no, cause I generally dislike short stories. The only time I do enjoy them is when they're part of an established series I like and are somewhat related to the series plot itself. It's a quirk. I pretty much never buy anthologies. I'm the type who prefers long sweeping series :)

I'm not an auditor of it, either—I'm taking it for credit!

Although I'd prefer tradepaper, I'd be delighted to have the book in either format that works best for SRM economics.

Format.

I appreciate that for this project eBook is not an option but I would make the general comment that these days my preferred way to purchase a book is Hardcover for the house with eBook for portability.

I picked $30 for the hard-cover option. I'd probably go $40 if that's what it took, but much past that and it'd be too rich for even my compulsive Liaden collecting.

I'd love a copy for mobi pocket. We'd probably pick up that and a hard cover or paperback for home.

Not in the cards, as mentioned in the preface.

My preference is for trade paperback, $20 tops. Of course, this depends on just how many stories/words we're talking about... if it's going to end up being a nice, thick volume, then hardback up to $30 is acceptable.

Another eBook reader here

(Yes I have read the disclaimer)

I might by a tpb or mmpb but the chances are low. I will buy anything by lee & miller electronically

er, I would like to know subject of the other stories. The only books of short stories I've ever bought are by Alan Dean Foster, and I've had a chance to read a synopsis before purchase. I guess the chapbooks are short stories - but there are of the LIADEN UNIVERSE.

Well .. very early for a synopsis, and besides, with many short pieces telling what the story is about is something like telling the story. We'll have to consider this ...

To tell the truth, my preferences nowadays start with ebook (shipping), then mmpb (size/shipping), then trade, and hardback is dead last. But -- I'll probably make an exception for Lee and Miller, unless you get into the silly coffee table editions, and even then I might do it. Not quite sure that market research works when the market will grab it, no matter what. Of course, your generic market may beg to differ :-)

Y'all's books are a lifetime investment, so hardback for the win!

A bit naughty responding to my own post but I would like to add I dislike trade paperback as it to me it combines the vice of mass market paperback (fragility) with the vice of hardback (size)
