Yesterday, Steve and I arouse early from our nuptial couch and drove down to Old Orchard Beach in the foggy, crisp pre-dawn. It was blue, but still crisp, by the time we hit town, arriving for a very pleasant breakfast at JJ's after a brief walk out, out, 'wwaaaaaayyyytheheckout to the edge of low tide.

After breakfast we went back down to the beach, and had a long, informative talk with another beach-walking couple about retirement relocations, the slow strangulation of small towns, and population shift. Then another walk down the beach, back through town, then up the hill and down, and so back to the car. A small ride took us into a previously unexplored neighborhood up back of the school. We eyed the yard sales, and checked out a couple model homes -- my, they sure are building some fancy houses nowadays! -- and then moseyed back to the beach, obedient to the siren call of gelato.

Some more minor perambulation, then in the car again for a drive down to Wells, and even more with the walking on the beach. (Yes, I can keep this sort of thing up for days.) Back again to Old Orchard for lunch overlooking the now white-capped and frisky ocean, and so homeward, with a side trip to the Maine Mall and some booty taken aboard. The Lucky Panda provided a delicious carry-out dinner, and the cats were pleased to welcome us home.

Really, a wonderful day.
