We slept in this morning, for values of sleeping in. When we finally roused enough to admit that there were tasks on the day, it was snowing, prettily. Funny how much prettier a snowstorm is when you don't need to drive in it.

Steve made us a lovely breakfast of waffles topped with his invented-on-the-spot peach, apple, and maple syrup preserve, with a side of the brie left over from the holiday dissipations. We sat and talked over those tasks awaiting our attention, sipped coffee and watched the snow.

Hope your morning was equally comfortable.

Working on it...heading to work, but I hope to get the Boat out today...which, if not entirely comfortable, will be very fun!

Watching the birds at my awesome new birdfeeder (http://naturalist-amm.blogspot.com/2009/01/just-about-perfect.html). The chickadees dart in and out; the goldfinch just clings on about halfway up and pigs out.

There's a charming triangular area outside our breakfast nook that warms our souls and entertains us off and on, all day, every day. About a dozen feet per side and has three poles with hanging feeders on 'em. The ground underneath sometimes seems alive with birds. The suet feeder is often the one feeder out of the 4 that is most in contention. There are tree limbs close around to lurk safely in, a pond for drinks & bathing less than 150 ft away, and a near-constant series of clients year around. At this time of year, we're almost overwhelmed with the little ones passing through on their way north: Vieros, Chickadees, Warblers, Finches, Sparrows and the like. The larger clients (Red-Winged Blackbirds, Cowbirds, Starlings, Brewer's Blackbirds, et cetera) apparently haven't started north yet 'cause I've not seen one for a couple of months, but we've still got plenty of Cardinals, 3 varietys of Doves, & Blue Jays. Not to mention the resident hawks who make periodic divebombing runs through the area and cause a frantic run-for-cover panic. Used to fill the feeders once, maybe twice a week but I swear the gossip has spread widely because now they get filled every other day. We must be enticing our feathered friends for miles around!

At the time you were posting about how long you slept in, I was still fast asleep in my bed (although I admit that I arose at about ten o'clock, only a quarter hour later).

First good night of sleep I've had in a couple of weeks, so it really felt goood!
