The last known wild Thylacine to be killed by bounty hunters or farmers was shot in 1930 by Wilf Batty in Mawbanna, who was only protecting his chickens.

The last zoo-kept Thylacine died in 1936.

yes but there is a group working on trying to clone them from the DNA residue.

barbary lions are also supposed to be extinct but there are probably a number of nearly pure individuals in captivity - bred down from captive barbary lions over the past century.

Isn't there one in Jasper Fforde's books?

I seem to recall there's a re-constituted-from-DNA one in the Jasper Fforde books. I think Thursday Next's mum has it. Along with a bunch of Dodos.

Funny books, if you have not yet encountered them. I keep wondering about the author - but then I wonder about Terry Pratchett too. Such detail. Whacky detail. But detail.
