The scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz is also located on a crossroad, if that matters. Where the yellow brick road seems to go this way or that way or the other way, and poor Dorothy doesn't know which way to go. Even Toto seems lost!
Yeah for Mouse and Dragon! Even if they are at the crossroads, betwixt the last section and the next. Perilous places, those crossroads. Not bad enough that the road could sweep you away (with echoes of Lord of The Rings warning from Bilbo to Frodo), but now it splits, too. Oh, you take the high road and I'll take the low road, and I'll be in port afore ye...
ah, now, -minstrels that I know, singing that song, remind the audience that the "low road" spoken of, was the spirit road... and that is why the person singing the song will "be in Scotland afore ye"... the speaker has died. Probably a sacrifice to protect the addressed... It can bring me to tears in the right mood and with the right singer...
Given that Aelliana may indeed cross over to the spirit road in this volume, that may be more appropriate than I had intended. And if this volume does have that in it, I do expect some tears...
Actually the song was about the King sending the heads of those executed for rebellion back to Scotland along the highway - being ceremonially exposed at all the towns along the way. (Probably at crossroads). The bereaved relatives who had come to London trying to appeal the sentences, walked back to Scotland along the back roads, travelling steadily, they got home first. And yes it does bring tears.........
70K and all's well!
