I have been so impressed with your discipline in writing; watching your word count go up weekly, and often daily, on a book that I know I will read in the not too distant future. You are the first author that I've found with a regular, normal everyday blog. It's being an educational experience. Thank you for sharing.

[Going back to Crystal Dragon, now. Can I tell you how much I love the tree as a sentient character? LOVE the tree. I hope so much that there are nods to its sentience in future novels. (I'll have to check out a list of your books in publication order to see what you've written in the Liaden 'verse after the duology.) I'm pretty new to Liaden (Anne McCaffrey sent me). I just bought most of the series from Baen for my Kindle, and I am happily reading in chronological order. /fangirl-moment]

Really? There's a bunch of us who talk about our everyday lives -- [livejournal.com profile] difrancis, [livejournal.com profile] jhetley, [livejournal.com profile] dancinghorse, [livejournal.com profile] suricattus, [livejournal.com profile] matociquala can get you started.

...I'm reminded of the story of someone who lived in Anne McCaffrey's town, and who knew that she was "famous" but remarked that one met her pretty often in the grocery store and she was "very down to earth." LOL.

Thank you. I think the Tree turned out rather well.

Are the Crystal books the first of ours you've read? I'm impressed.

...After the Crystal books, in the Liaden Universe(R)...we wrote Fledgling and then Saltation.

Publication order:
Agent of Change, 1988
Conflict of Honors, 1988
Carpe Diem, 1989
Plan B, 1999
Local Custom, 2001
Scout's Progress, 2002
I Dare, 2002
Balance of Trade, 2004

Really? There's a bunch of us who talk about our everyday lives SHould I have qualified by saying first author that I read?

Several years before wholesale buying my Kindle full from Baen, I had read 1st & 5th Local Custom (twice because I really like Anne & Er Thom), 2nd and 4thAgent of Change (twice, because I left a bookmark in the middle of the book and thought I hadn't finished it, so started over and reached the end without hitting a new part), 3rd Conflict of Honors. Have had my Kindle a year and love not having even more books around. Was thrilled to find e-versions of Liaden stuff. After the reread of Local Custom and realizing I had forgotten a lot of how Liaden society works, decided to read all the stories through in chronological order. Now I should be able to keep straight who is who, and how they are related to someone else, and the various time frames. I'm anticipating it will take a good part of the summer.

I thought the backstory on the writing of the Crystal duology was really interesting, that you felt you needed to mature as writers before tackling it. I am sad today because last night we left Jela on Vanehald.

Again, I can't tell you how cool it is to watch you write a book in a series that I am currently enjoying so much.
