End of Scene, End of Brain
...it's nice when those two states coincide, which happens Far Too Seldom Around Here. I'm just sayin'.
My back still hurts, dammit, and I'm a little puzzled as to how I'm going to walk up the hill tomorrow, bearing my canvas bag full of lunch and manuscript. I tried to fit the manuscript into my mini backpack, but -- no joy. Maybe my lunch will fit in there and I can carry the manuscript under my arm? That might work.
So, got to the End of the Big Scene. I think it works, but -- see End of Brain, above -- a final determination will have to wait on the morrow. On the whole, I'm pleased with how it all finally came together, morphing through two phases that didn't make any sense but had Dramatic! Punch! to this final phase, which may actually make sense and preserves Dramatic! Punch! Even the same Punch, though for a vastly different reason.
*finishes already with the patting of herself on the back*
How's the Great Migration to Dream Width going? Everybody thinking they'll set up a permanent base there and just post through to LJ? I have to admit that I keep forgetting to do that, though it's nice to see so many familiar faces around the place. Makes it feel homey.
As a reward for finishing the Big Scene, and because Beginning of Scene, End of Brain is a really bad start-off combo, I am going to go eat some more aspirin and retire yet again to the comfy chair with The True Meaning of Smekday.
Progress on Mouse and Dragon:
"Uncle Daav never misses," Shan said comfortably.
The object of this encompassing trust gave a shout of laughter, snatched the child off his shoulder and set him upright on his feet.
He dropped to one knee and peered into the small face.
"Even the quickest pilot sometimes misses," he said, seriously. "And it is not at all the thing to be ambushing your kin from the shrubberies."

I'm there. I'm crossposting. I prefer LJ because I have a paid account, a style I like, and more icons. If DW becomes vastly better in some way, I may move. Or if all my friends migrate to DW, never to return. Otherwise, it's a backup. No pressing need to make the switch.
Dream Width
:)
p.s. hope your back feels better and that the lunch & the manuscript coexist harmoniously

I do love the little snippets you post. The mixture of wry humour and seriousness is just so - well - so Liaden! Best of luck with the WiP.

I switched partly because I wanted to change my username -- it's already taken here on LJ.

I haven't been able to keep up with the forums I'm supposedly already on. The idea of another migration... aargh. What I really want is a forum that is NOT loaded with things trying to track me and do ad insertion that crashes web browsers, is an avenue for spying on me and for inserting malware into computers (see the the us-cert webpages off the Department of Homeland Security website...)... when someone reads a magazine or goes into a store the magazine publisher and the stores are not injecting them with RFID tags and applying tracers to their clothing and trying to glue their eyeballs and their computers' home page to the magazine home office and the stores.... but go websurfing and there are sites that will force once to do hundreds (no exaggeration) of mouse clicks at one per script, one per "cookie" many of which "expire" in 2038 or longer (which are infinity in computer date terminology....), Active-X controls, etc. -- I set computers I use to notify me everytime one of those things tried to run or wants to write something to my computer, and the amount of overhead involved in clicking away and that extra blasted mouseclick for the more information about the wannabee spyeye as to where it;s from and for hour long, and the clicking away on the scripts, means a lot of WASTED time and effort... I object to being "datamined" and potentially infested with malware and inconvenienced, just when I want to -browse-!
I do NOT object to advertising, and get irritated sometimes advertisers who fail to comprehend, "You know, I really DO want your PRODUCT INFORMATION! But I do NOT want to be poked nd prodding and SPIED ON when looking for -information-, and I don't want to be inconvenienced by not being able to find it quickly, efficiently, accurately, and without INTERFERENCE from being poked and prodded and spied on and hit with 200 annoying intrusions and promotional crap I am NOT interested in!" (I also hate it when sales associates intrude on me as I'm wandering around a store or looking at merchandise or staring at is. It's so offensive to me that there are times when I really did want to ask a sales associate about something or have a question, and I automatically said, "NO!" in hostile tone when the sales associate walked up to me and asked if I needed assistance!, instead of asking the question I had! )
I also do NOT want lowest common denominator "you are a pair of eyeballs to exploit and MARKET -stuff- to!" Targeted ads I;ve gotten averse to, also, because of the "beaming" technologies and the slimeball stuff from adclick.com doubleclick.com etc. etc. etc. If market researchers want my opinion, they can solicit me DIRECTLY for it, and/or pay me--bugging my computer without benefit to ME or my explicit permission and explanations of exactly who is getting the data and why, is guaranteed to infuriate me....

Y'a know, if you put that manuscript on a usb stick, I'll bet it will fit in your pocket.:-)

Will, but then I can't draw red lines all over it, and find (most) all of the places where I've dropped words.
Plus, yanno, I'd have to convert it from .odt to .doc, and get Mac's code all over it, then convert it back to .odt, and the last time we wrote a manuscript for Baen across five different computers, I don't think we ever did get it all to come out right.
Just easier to take the paper.

I'm not on DW, except under my LJ OpenID to see what it's like. As others have said, I won't be using it until (a) it is open entrance or I get an 'invite' (sic) and (b) most of my friends are there and not posting in LJ. I don't have a paid LJ account, but I do not want to have to read in two places and try to remember which post was on which one and where I replied to what.

Ya Think?
Could be the cause of your back pain.
Let us do it for you. We'll be happy to, we know you deserve them.
