OK, the US Government has decided to be upset about the Google Book Settlement. The Justice Department has sent out formal requests for information to various entities, including the Authors Guild, Google, and divers publishers.

But none to authors.

Can someone figure out how authors can get in on the fun, here? I love my publisher, but their interests do not necessarily coincide with mine in this matter; we have different necessities.

Forgive my ignorance, but does the Authors Guild not represent authors? If not, what is it?

Um, no. The Authors Guild does not represent authors. It's a membership organization...sort of like SFWA, but slightly less rabid. It *cannot* speak for non-member authors (of which I am one), and I can't for the life of me figure out what they were thinking in entering into the original negotiation with Google.

One wonders if it gets in people's hair, or merely goes like it's out of hell. Both could conceivably suit. ;)
