So Hurricane Bill swung wide and all we're gonna get is (maybe) some thunderstorms and a lot of wet, tropical air. Sigh. I was ready for hurricane weather, me.

Yesterday was one of those days where I got a whole lot of stuff done at the day-job. Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly the stuff I had planned on getting done. Ah, well, Monday's another day.

After work, I took my car, which is in danger of acquiring "The Green Pearl" as a moniker unless I get creative quick, to the body shop, since someone apparently used the fender to stand on when we were at Old Orchard Beach, breaking one of the clips that holds the, um, plastic nose part onto the rest of the car below the passenger side headlight, thereby pushing the plastic part sufficiently so that it hangs down in a disconcerting sort of way. After an inspection and repeated assertions that "that don't look right" a clip was ordered and an appointment made for Thursday to install. With luck, I'm out of it for $90. Fingers crossed.

Moving right along, I stopped at the drug store to pick up the prescription I had been assured by phone earlier in the day would be ready by 3:00, except it wasn't, so I waited around a while for that to happen, arriving home to find that Steve had achieved a similar day and was similarly baked.

That being so, we did what anyone would do; we turned off the computers in view of what appeared to be an incipient thunderstorm and went into town to spend the rest of the Secretaries Day Administrative Professionals Day gift card on white pizza and a glass of wine each. Good call.

We got home just before the thunderstorm and sat together watching the rain and talking, and so, eventually, retired.

Today, having slept very, very late, and partaken of a wonderful breakfast created by Steve, I've got the first load of laundry washing and am ready to catch up the bookkeeping, and the emails likewise. I also have a book to finish. Reading. Yay, reading. Or maybe we'll both knock off early and watch some Brisco County Jr. Or, hey, if the bookkeeping goes fast, maybe I'll do both.

What's everybody doing that's fun on the weekend?

Baseball! A's v. Tigers. Polish sausage with kraut and a beer. Followed by one of those big ice cream sandwiches made with chocolate chip cookies.

Then maybe a movie tomorrow - The Time Traveler's Wife

Dim Sum! Usually we do this on Sunday but the students are arriving back and it will be crowded tomorrow. The youngest persons don't get here until next weekend but grad students are back -- business was looking up at the place with the cart ladies.

Now to laundry, picking beans and other jobs that do not require a brain.

Unfamiliar schedule -- back when we had a grad student, he stayed on campus all year, while it was the undergrads who vanished. Your grad students go away?

More like, some graduate students graduate and go away, new crop arrived and all must try out the dim sum options in celebration of new school year. It was actually pretty busy for a Saturday.

There was a new crop of folks at the restaurant unfamiliar with some of the offerings. Long explanations in Chinese ensued. By age they would fall into realm of grad student, post doc or research fellow.

Hiding away from That Nasty Heat outside . . .

Advanced planning indicates a cold chicken sandwich and the last of the bean salad for suppah, taken in front of a TV displaying the Sox/Yankees game. As I am not actually a diehard Sox fan, a repeat of last night's 20-11 debacle won't ruin my digestion.

Today I had to work (the joys of a public service job). Tomorrow, time and weather permitting, I'm going to a local craft fair. And I'm going to get started on a graduation-present quilt. Also, laundry.

I'm still doing house-hunting with the soon-to-be homeless friend - we looked at a house today that came pretty damn close to everybody's dream home - have a look here: http://ninemsn.domain.com.au/Public/PropertyDetails.aspx?adid=2007937870 (sorry, don't know how to add a link in this thing) - and the asking price? A cool $2.8 million bananas. Wow. It even had a climate controlled cellar downstairs. Glad I wore the good shoes.

Unlike everyone else, it is about 15º below normal here, we barely hit 70º today. Brrrr.

Today was the local Parade of Homes, much diminished from previous years (only 7 homes in 1 location vs 20-30 homes in 2 locations). Homes were normal sized (1600-2400 sqft) instead of the usual McMansions. Opened package from SRM publishers (yippee! Chap books!) B-day dinner for roommate (homemade meatloaf, mash taters, coconut custard pie with whip cream & candles), and now a business meeting phone call, while roommates watch Packers vs Bills football.

Sunday will be walk at zoo, stop in at REI to look at hiking shoes, and then an afternoon making last minute plans for vacation starting on Wed. Doesn't look like we'll get the beach weather we wanted, but a B&B vacation is good none the less!
