1. The new professors are starting to drift in at the day-job; the returning professors are still in denial.

2. The revision letter for Saltation has landed, which Steve mostly dealt with, amid fun! software! glitches! Then I caught a continuity error that had gotten past everybody -- oh! And the fun! software! glitches!? Have blitzed the first word following an opening quote in some -- but not all! -- sections, and! destroyed the space between an underlined word and the next non-underlined word, in all sections. Which is just. . .special.

Y'all know what the confluence of the above-referenced disasters mean, right?

Right.

Play nice, don't scare the cats, and remember to take out the garbage.

I think it's just that kind of day - -

I've been having "one of those days" at work today - fighting with our travel reservations system, among other things. And then I just spoke with an airline reservations person about a special requirement for a flight tomorrow morning, and she was having computer issues too...but I think we've worked it out.

Sympathies.

Not sure what software you are using -- but there is software that will list all the differences in 2 documents.
I use windiff, but that just does text files -- probably not good for your problem. might be worth a google search.

hope the luck rolls your way.

i found this for word documents

To Compare Microsoft word files:
You can copy and paste any text from other applications into a Merge file comparison window(Tools-->Compare and Merge Files). So, simply open a new two-way file comparison, then copy the text from one document (in Microsoft Word, press Ctrl+A to select the entire document, followed by Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard) and paste it into the left file pane (click in the pane, then press Ctrl+P to paste). Then, repeat, pasting the text of the second document revision that you wish to compare into the right file pane. The differences between the documents will then be shown. This is an effective way to compare, for example, different drafts of a contract being edited with Microsoft Word.

Err -- hadn't noticed that Steve had already posted on his blog about Dave's story, around 8 hours before I left the above comment.
