The contracts for the Baen Liaden UniverseĀ® omnibi have been signed and are on the way back to Madame the Agent. We're still awaiting final approval of titles, but!

We do know that the first omnibus edition, including Local Custom, Scout's Progress and Conflict of Honors will be coming to a bookstore near you in June 2010, the Very Same Month that Mouse and Dragon hits the shelves. Timing-wise, this could hardly be better, and thus we are Happy Campers here at the Cat Farm.

The omnibi will, so we're told, be published "one a season" until all four are in play. Which is also very cool.

*eyes the publication schedule for the near future*

It's looking like seven? -- can that be right? -- seven Lee-and-Miller and Lee titles coming out between now and the end of 2010? Better yet, they're all written!

More books to sign after work, then Steve has a library trustees meeting and I...may go home and read.

YAY!
Now I shall be able to recommend without caveats of "You won't be able to find that though unless you get the e-book and you can't borrow mine 'cause it's lent out already."

Kind of on topic -- Fledgling (non)presence in Denton, Texas -- I dropped into Hastings, found no copies, and asked. According to the clerk's computer, the street date is September 30. In vain I explained that the release was last week. For Hastings, it is the 30th.

So I went over to Barnes and Noble. They had the right date, but no copies and no plans to order any until the big lead stores see how it does. Apparently the smaller secondary stores don't believe in putting copies on the shelf so browsers can, you know, happen across them. On the other hand, of course there was a literal mountain of the new Dan Brown at the front of the store. Ugh. I read Da Vinci Code just to see what the buzz was about, and I got SO tired of being bludgeoned over the head six times with each clue!

BN would have ordered me a copy, but since I am awaiting my own charter copy, I didn't do that, and simply my interest is apparently not enough to get them to order any in. Sorry my news is no better.

These two stores are about it for books in Denton. The independent store on the courthouse square where I spent many happy hours and dollars, back when paperbacks were 50Ā¢, is long gone. Wal-Mart has a few books, but I think they quit carrying SF.

I haz a Fledgling!

To update you on where they are, this was from Forbidden Planet bookshop in London (England) who have them in stock (unlike Amazon UK who are still saying "we'll notify you when it comes out"). To Be Read when I have finished rereading Diane Duane's Rihannsu subseries so probably before or at the weekend (I force myself to only read one book at a time these days, otherwise I tend to do "ooh, shiny!" and keep picking up new books and never finishing them)...

I assume that the seven books are Fledgling, Saltation, Mouse and Dragon (is that the official title now?) and the Omnibi, or have I missed something else?

I'm going to take this to the top of another thread. It's very possible that I've missed something myself, so we'll throw it open to the Group Mind.

Does not have Fledgling. Nor seems interested in ordering it. Same tale Abigail described. Guess I'll just read and re-read my rough draft copy until the mmp of it comes out.
