Bookkeeping and I have crossed swords, and the ledgers are black with decimal points. This ought to make me feel better than it actually does.

Work on the Fledgling mailing continues, in odd corners and back-places where you can't see. As a reward for having done my bookkeeping, I'm fiddling the database so it will play nice with the mailing software. Gah.

And I say again, Gah.

As of tonight, there are but 138 Saltations still in need of a home. See this page for details.

I am closing the door on Fledgling adoptions until after the mailing is complete and people have had time to sort out what they received as opposed to what they thought they ought to have received. If there are any books in need of a good home after that process is complete, we'll send out the word.

Fans of Mozart take note: He sleeps in the rocking chair, disdaining bookkeeping and databases alike.

I meant to ask about this in the original post but got distracted.

You said "since the new postage program prints dated postage that must be used that day"

That doesn't sound right. Have you asked about this at the post office?

Once printed you've paid for it however you system accounts for it to the post office systems. Once paid for you should be able to use it when ever you want.

I have often gotten return envelopes that have metered postage on it rather than stamps.

My only experience with bulk mailings involved those little square boxes with non-profit and our permit number. They were printed up in bulk ahead of time. Granted we didn't pay for them until we used them and then only for what we used.

I ordered a copy from you while enjoying the weekly installments on the web. I pre-ordered a copy from Amazon and then pre-ordered it again(bookkeeping issues)from Amazon. The second copy arrived two weeks after the first so I donated it to the local county library since they don't stock ANY Lee and Miller. I'm sure this will change as soon as the first person checks out the new book.

The Barnes and Noble that operates from the University of Maryland Student Union was also urged to stock Fledgling and everything else Lee and Miller.

Thanks for the hours of pleasurable reading!

The thing is -- we're printing tracking information as well as postage; in effect what comes our of our printer *is* legally postmarked. There's *all kinds* of rigmarole to go through if the postage isn't used that day.

Ah. Which campus, I wonder?

Yes the Post Office is exceptionally good at rigmarole.

Probably wise to avoid it.

It isn't that you couldn't, just that it is more trouble than it is worth.
