Bookkeeping and I have crossed swords, and the ledgers are black with decimal points. This ought to make me feel better than it actually does.

Work on the Fledgling mailing continues, in odd corners and back-places where you can't see. As a reward for having done my bookkeeping, I'm fiddling the database so it will play nice with the mailing software. Gah.

And I say again, Gah.

As of tonight, there are but 138 Saltations still in need of a home. See this page for details.

I am closing the door on Fledgling adoptions until after the mailing is complete and people have had time to sort out what they received as opposed to what they thought they ought to have received. If there are any books in need of a good home after that process is complete, we'll send out the word.

Fans of Mozart take note: He sleeps in the rocking chair, disdaining bookkeeping and databases alike.

The thing is -- we're printing tracking information as well as postage; in effect what comes our of our printer *is* legally postmarked. There's *all kinds* of rigmarole to go through if the postage isn't used that day.

Yes the Post Office is exceptionally good at rigmarole.

Probably wise to avoid it.

It isn't that you couldn't, just that it is more trouble than it is worth.
