Who do they look like? Input Requested
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 08:24 amAll righty, then! Asyouknowbob, we here at the Cat Farm and Confusion Factory are not Completely Up-to-Date on all the celebrity faces out there. We therefore throw this question open to the Group Mind:
Who "looks like" Daav yos'Phelium?
And! Special Bonus Question: Who "looks like" Aelliana Caylon?
Note that this is not a casting call, but for illustrative purposes.
Have at it.

Date: 2009-09-29 12:50 pm (UTC)Maybe the half sister of Laura Webber-Spencer. Darned if I can remember the actresses name. Genie Francis (Laura) would do for a close second.
Daav looks like the guy, who at the time played her boy friend or husband. After that he got a gig playing some guy named 'McGuyver'; and then a 'minor' roll in something called 'Stargate', I think (LOL)
On the other hand, Genie Francis' husband, the fellow that played the dashing first officer on Star Trek NG could be a pretty good Daav too. What the heck was HIS name? Brain=mush today

Date: 2009-09-29 01:35 pm (UTC)That was a hard question.
Most of the actresses were either too good looking or they just can not pull off the brainy look.
I was going to say Pierce Brosnan for Daav but he is too tall, does not look "unassuming", and he definitely does not look like he is quick silver. Then I came to me that Val is a much better fit. Still not perfect.
I probably should have given it more thought, but I wanted to post before I was influenced by the other comments.

Date: 2009-09-29 03:29 pm (UTC)Daav
Date: 2009-09-29 03:52 pm (UTC)I have found him haunting me. I didn't even know his name until I looked for him this morning to show you his image. He is very "in" as an actor and a rocker. There are many more of him, with many different hair colors. He is a chameleon which would work for Daav.
For Aeliana I think Mary Stewart Masterson would be excellent, though she is older. If the "young" generation of actors, Amy Acker on Dollhouse/Angel - they have to work to make her look plain but she is always playing brainy women, so younger viewers would very much identify her with them.

Date: 2009-09-29 03:53 pm (UTC)For Aelli, I see Iben Hjejle (John Cusak's girlfriend in High Fidelity) with slightly darker hair, or Amy Acker.

Date: 2009-09-29 03:57 pm (UTC)Much as I detest this actor,or at least the characters he plays, he has the right build & coloring...David Spade (http://www.outdoor-michigan.com/Images/Famous_People/david_spade.jpg). I just looked at the other comments and I like a young Richard Dean Anderson so much more, I think he is okay in both build & coloring, just not with his 80's hair.
Jonathan Frakes & James Spader both way too large & hulking for me.
For Aelliana I see an appropriately aged, young Emma Thompson (http://content7.flixster.com/photo/11/37/87/11378757_gal.jpg) as just perfect.
Back to Daav, after perusing some photos (gotta love the 'images' feature of a google search) I think that RDA is a little too rugged compared to the descriptions of Daav. So I'm going to go with David Spade, strictly for features, slightness of build, and that more softness of feature that Liadens are prone to.

Date: 2009-09-29 04:11 pm (UTC)And anyway we don't have to worry about whether they could act the part as Steve & Sharon are only interested in appearances.

Daav is totally Errol Flynn or Cary Elwes for me.

Date: 2009-09-29 07:52 pm (UTC)Daav is more difficult. He's got some age on him by the time of the main story. He's shorter than Kamele, so whoever we choose, we heed a 7/8 scale version of the guy.
Both are fully Liaden, are they not? Golden skin, small of stature. Maybe there are some Oriental or Indian actors who would fit the bill?

Date: 2009-09-29 09:59 pm (UTC)Aelliana is harder. Late 20's, but still retaining innocence and shyness, despite a bit of hardening from her early marriage. Hum, Uma Thurman or maybe Christina Applegate (from Just Visiting ..).

Date: 2009-09-30 03:14 am (UTC)Neither one is a casting call, but just a look.
Ailli could be played by someone a cross between Twiggy (not scary bright enough) and Jodie Foster (not starved enough.)

Date: 2009-09-30 06:34 am (UTC)Aelliana seems like she's somewhere between Emma Thompson (in Sense and Sensibility) and Summer Glau (as River Tam), with a smattering of Willow from Season 1 of Buffy (actress's name is Alyson Hannigan).

Date: 2009-09-30 06:47 am (UTC)But I think the best Aelliana is actually Penny from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog--Felicia Day is the actress.

who looks like Daav
Date: 2009-09-30 02:55 pm (UTC)He was in the movie "August Rush" and the most recent BBC mini-series "The Tudors"
He has a wicked smile which is what I imagine Daav has.
Daav
Date: 2009-09-30 02:59 pm (UTC)While I think the skin color is off, here are my picks
Date: 2009-09-30 08:48 pm (UTC)Daav - There are a couple of Mongol-characters, one played by
Chang Chen in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He was the foxy
faced nomad who stole/kidnapped the governor's daughter and
seduced her. The other was Genghis Khan as played by Tadanobu
Asano in Mongol.
Oh! What about John Cho as Val Con or a very very young Daav?
[He was in Star Trek as Sulu and I think he's in Flash Forward.]
Aelliana - I took one look at that image of Amber and said YES.
That was me, Lauretta
Date: 2009-09-30 08:52 pm (UTC)Lauretta, who thought the Mongols got a bad rap and were actually
quite savvy and smart.

Date: 2009-09-30 09:31 pm (UTC)Amber Benson seems a very good fit for Aelli: she's a bit fey rather than precisely beautiful. (Good God, did she have an eating disorder? Some of those other photos are frightening, poor girl.)

Date: 2009-10-01 11:33 pm (UTC)I agree that Amber Benson would look like Aelli. I also think Nicole Kidman would be *awesome* as someone in clan Korval. She can put that mischief in her eyes that's just... Korval. maybe more like Anthora though.
Terminator Linda Hamilton would be a good example of *Cantra* in my opinion.
The best suggestion anyone had for Daav was Richard Armitage.
Do they have to be live celebrities?
Date: 2009-10-02 02:14 pm (UTC)Daav and Aelliana lookalikes
Date: 2009-10-05 11:18 am (UTC)Given this one lots of thought over time.
Johnny Depp I think is too beautiful and broad faced for Daav though slight enough and graceful.
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers has the build and possibly sharp-enough features but I'm struggling to find a photo where he doesn't look pretty.
Adrian Paul is alas too solid, too good looking and not quite fox-faced enough though has the colouring.
RDA is alas too rugged I think as well though I can't find any early pictures.
Niall Matter, now that I've looked him up, is also too pretty alas.
Keanu Reeves has the colouring and sharper features but is sufficiently good-looking to be a potential Val Con (though way too tall!)
Richard Armitage hadn't occurred to me but I quite like him as a choice. Definitely has the sharpness of feature and a face that grows on you but isn't immediately handsome.
Joseph Fiennes has the length of face and colouring but hmmm... I've been looking at pictures of Peter Wingfield (Methos from Highlander) and I think he might be more of my mental image of Daav than Joe...too rugged?
Joe Flanigan (Stargate Atlantis) sometimes crosses my mind but I have to disqualify him on being too handsome, I guess.
I agree we should also consider South and East Asian actors/models but haven't seen one to fit the bill myself.Asano Tadanobu (is that the one suggested?)from Mongol doesn't appear quite "unbeautiful" enough.
Aelliana is much easier. I like Amber Benson as a choice, though for fragility I thought of Gwyneth Paltrow first. I've seen Jodie Foster play too many strong women to be able to picture her as timid, intellectual Aelliana. As with Linda Hamilton, I can see her as Cantra.
Thanks again,

another possibility fro Daav
Date: 2009-10-08 04:20 pm (UTC)My picks
Date: 2009-10-22 04:33 am (UTC)Daav: I like James Marsters (Spike in Buffy, but with dark hair instead of platinum blond.) His face is harsh and not traditionally handsome, but strong and intelligent.
