Yesterday, there was much accomplished. And chicken stew. I did manage to beat a complete -- by which I mean, "There are scenes missing and at least one scene that shouldn't be included, the sentences are ugly, and the ending stops short, but I Can Work With This" -- draft of "Hidden Resources" out of my back brain. Steve and I met for a late dinner and a reading of the October 18 chapter of A Night in the Lonesome October; I clipped Hexapuma's claws; Steve and I talked over the list of tasks that still await us, and so, eventually to bed.

A bit later, Steve couldn't sleep (never talk over lists of tasks still to be done directly before bed), and got up to find -- blood all over the kitchen, and all over Hexapuma.

Inspection revealed that one of Hex's back claws had split, and was bleeding heavily. I applied a cold cloth; Steve fetched a traveling cat box up from the basement. Blood mostly staunched, we scooted Hex (treacherously) into the box and carried him to the bedroom, where for the next three hours he proceeded to make a case for his Immediate Release. Have I mentioned that Hexapuma, unlike most Maine Coon Cats, has a. . .robust. . .voice?

Long story short, not much sleep last night.

Good news; the bleeding has stopped.

I see epic caffeine consumption in my very near future.

And! Today's Girl Genius once again discusses the creative process.

Poor kitty! Extra scritches on behalf of kitty fans.
(My 1/2 Maine Coon cat usually peeps, but once in a car or carrier he employs the 1/2 Siamese voice. I feel for you.)

Something playing around in my head...can't you have Edgar & Sheather "sing" Win Ton back to health or at least give him a better chance than even the Uncle's healing machine?
(was thinking about the last scene in I Dare where Theo comes in and Edgar is standing there.)

Alas, the nature of those things which afflict Win Ton are beyond even the powers of the Clutch. He is mired in and prisoned by many songs, only one of which is true, while each believes that it is true.

Also -- please no "why don't yous..." on a story that's just taking shape for us.

Thanks.

I am too much like Moloch - this is why I suck at writing fiction. I am the grounding strap to the high-voltage excesses of my sparky friends.

We had a Maine Coon when I was younger. Sasquatch had no trouble making himself heard when he wanted to be. We were living in a large house in New England that had been built in the early years of the 20th Century, and the common areas and stairs were covered in that heavy gray wool carpet that seems to be the default floor covering from that period. The cat used to sleep at the very bottom of the staircase, with his back up against the riser of the first step. When the staircase would creak as someone started down the stairs, Sasquatch would give out a very specific sort of bleat which obviously meant "Do Not Step On The Cat!" There was a different sound for "The Cat Could Eat A Little Something Now," and another for "The Cat Is Done Being Inside Now." Other specific comments included "Your Lap Had Better Be Empty Because The Cat Is Getting Into It," and "The Cat Is Done With Playing Now."
