Thanks to everyone weighing in with promotional angles; keep 'em coming.

It was a writing weekend, which was good, even though I had to rewrite Chapter One again. Honest to ghod, what's with that? Finally resorted to outlining both characters' version of events with timelines. I may now have it right. Finding out that I don't have it right by receiving upset reader email is nowhere in this plan.

It was also an Epic Laundry Weekend -- I wish the cats would stop changing their jeans four times a day. Or if they won't, I wish they'd learn how to operate the washing machine.

Today, we cooked. Steve made a scrumptious chicken, um, stir-fry thingy, and I made a pot of bean soup. Hurrah! We have lunch for the next week -- and beyond, as half of the bean soup went into the freezer.

Oh! Everybody's seen this, right? Basically, Pepsi decided to use the money it would normally spend on Super Bowl advertising to fund worthy projects, in the areas of Health, Art, Food and Shelter, The Planet, Neighborhoods and Education. I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

Those who had snow, I hope you're dug out and warm and the lights are on.

The stranger stopped, holding his hands up, fingers wide, showing himself no threat -- which Miri thought he wasn't, not here and now.

"I'm retired," he said, like it was the next line in an old, old argument.

Ha! It must have been bean soup day. Made mine in the crockpot, with smoked ham hocks, simmered six hours, yum!
I love the snippets.

I was thinking that I would like to see a Liad Universe timeline. Worlds/characters/times are overlapping in odd ways.

Now *that* snippet is really gonna bug me, 'cause I have *no* idea who he is. Somebody new? Good guy? Villain? (does't feel like it)

Thanks. I think ;-)

My stupid wild-ass guess is going to be... Clarence O'Berin, the Juntavas boss from "The Beggar King." Why?

Sharon put him on the word list, so we know he's going to appear in Ghost Ship. (ETA: That list is the whole reason his name flashed into my mind on seeing this post's snippet. IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT, SHARON.)

We know Daav introduced Aelli to him in Mouse and Dragon, so plainly they continued their association. (Google search brings up another snippet from M&D with the requisite quote.) This gives Boss O'Berin a reason to possibly show up on Surebleak, considering that his old friend Daav has resettled there.

The speaker is a stranger to Miri and feels the need to reassure her that he's retired, which hints at Juntavas to me, considering her history with them.

Of course, if/when it turns out to be someone else entirely, I'll feel mildly silly, but such is life. ^_^

... I am way too big a nerd. O_o

Interesting thought .... but due to this line
"like it was the next line in an old, old argument."
I was thinking the Uncle ... who we know has been around for a long long time.

Clarence O'Berin? As I said, he's a Juntavas boss. He made his bow in the short story "The Beggar King," which came out in the chapbook titled "Necessary Evils."

The quote feels wrong for the Uncle. I can't imagine the Uncle ever retiring. We'll see eventually, of course.

ETA: I suppose it's possible he's another Arin, but... *shrug*

I'm right there with you about the laundry. Personally I am trying to get my family to become nudist. My son's jeans fill the washer (and it's one of those super super sized ones. No one is cooperating though... - Ellen

Of course it's much easier to be nudist in average temperatures of around 24-26°C.
