Hey, we made it to Friday morning. Go, us.

Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the ital issue. My personal opinion is that -- if the purpose of a science fiction story is to suck the reader into a strange, new world, then constantly reminding them, through the use of itals, that they're not in Kansas anymore...is counterproductive. This is, I repeat, my personal opinion; and it is well to recall here that I argue copy edit queries from the side of the characters. Writers have odd brains. At least, this writer does.

In other news -- here's a nice interview with Toni Weisskopf, our long-suffering editor.

Still proofing Scout's Progress. Found a missing line last night, which freaked me, so now I'm being ExtraEXTRA careful.

Everybody having a fun Friday?

Please tell her that I want the books chipped in stone *g*. Seriously, it's a good article and explanation.

Nice interview, now I can go back to staring at the Baen website waiting for the EArc of Mouse and Dragon so I can buy it. Then I have the month bought and of course I'll need to buy a physical copy when it comes out.

::goes and stares at website going "sell to me .... sell to me ... sell to me." ::

Use of Italics

Hello,

I am one of those who does not care for italics. When I read (sic fi for example or a story set in a foreign location), I understand that if the characters are on some other world or in some other country they are not speaking english. Whether they are speaking Laiden, Trade, Russian or Hopi is a fact that I will understand in the context of the story. I don't need some publisher to add italics assuming I am to stupid to understand the point I just made. Thank you.

<Everybody having a fun Friday?>

Spring cleaning! So far washing curtains, inside screens & windows. Next cleaning up all the dust from taking down the curtains & screens. And then it's washing sheets day, too. Gotta love all of this spring weather (temps in the 50's), even if it comes with lots of rain & fog.

Snow drops are blooming in the yard.

That WAS a nice interview - it makes me feel that if I emailed her directly and said I hate the itals she might back off on requiring them.... Is there a chance that could work?

If so - what's the best way to contact her about it without making her upset?

Dispensing with itals has GOT to be easier than chipping in stone!
