. . .consider the above fair warning, and Do Not Try Me(tm).  Thank you.

As reported earlier in the week, B&N and Amazon are now shipping Saltation; both are accepting customer reviews, if you’re of a reviewing bent.

I’m now looking for reports of Saltation spotted in the wild, as well as any other Lee and Miller books that might be nearby.  As you’re out and about town, keep your eyes peeled, please!

No, we have not yet received our Big Shipment of Saltation subscriber copies.  We’ll tell you when.?

My plans for the day include cleaning out my closet and making up a box of stuff to go to Goodwill, brainstorming, and perhaps goofing off with my spiffy! new! layout program.

What’re you doing that’s fun?

Today I'm going out looking for Florida landscape plants that can survive not only the heat of summer and severe full sunlight, but also several freezing nights in a row. Mother Nature kindly did an 8-night practical cold-weather exam this winter that a large number of my previously beloved plants failed. Miserably. And with permanent results.

Our red-flower hibiscus passed that exam. So did various azaleas.

The prominent leafy plant in the nice flower pot out front, not so much.

My 30 year old orange double hibiscus apparently didn't survive this year's Florida winter either. Not a sign of green yet!

Most of the other plants are apparently toast also. The only thing that really is showing no sign of problem is my Coonties.

I'm currently washing in Very Hot Water and drying in a Very Hot Dryer ten yards of undyed linen/cotton fabric, preparatory to making a summer jacket out of one bit and a tablecloth and napkins out of another bit. Hopefully the VHW and VHD will result in most of the shrinkage happening before I fit the jacket to my body rather than afterwards.

Well, it's not fun...

...but I hope to finish all prep work for taxes, and maybe even start taxes, or (universe bless me) finish taxes? Last year is better forgotten as far as finances and keeping track of same are concerned.

More fun will be moving a few boxes around, unpacking a few more, and rolling the new computer cart into the office. I am praying that the computer cords will stretch to where I want to put the desk. Otherwise, unpacking a bookshelf and moving same will have to happen.

I'll make a burdock root, arame, carrot and onion stir fry in there somewhere, too.

Oh --

I found two copies at the Border's in Redmond (WA) yesterday. I've not started it yet, I'm saving it for this week while I am traveling.

I mowed the back yard this morning and watered the patio plants and the flowerbeds and the vegetable garden. It is quite warm outside today and just beautiful. Wish you were here to enjoy it! (Goodness knows it'll be too hot soon enough.)

I spotted Saltation on the special order shelf at the local bookstore. It was the for the owner of the store, and I made sure to share that Mouse and Dragon and Ghost Ship would be up next.... :)

I'm currently putting in a drip irrigation system for our garden & backyard, before the rains stop coming often enough to water the plants for us.

I haven't spotted Saltation in the wild, but when I went to place an order at the local independent bookstore here in Davis, CA, I found out that while they hadn't ordered a copy for the store, they'd just had someone else come in and preorder it. This is in contrast to Fledgling where I was the only preorder - hopefully they'll get the hint and start ordering copies of your work at some point.

Also, very well done on Saltation - my wife and I both are eagerly awaiting Ghost Ship whenever it comes out. (We've already read the ebooks of Saltation, but paper copies are so much easier to lend out).

Was at my local Borders on Wednesday and sighted the paperback of Fledgling, but nothing else by Lee/Miller on the shelf, alas.

Am currently planning out a wedding cake for 2 friends who are tying the not in June. Looking like it'll feature Tudor roses and ivy made of sugarpaste (by me).

Shortly, I'll be starting to read "Changes" by Jim Butcher, which arrived in the mail today.

Please. Dish.

Well...That could have something to do with the fact that we're still writing it -- or not writing it, because it has a stuckness at the moment. The manuscript is due at Baen in August, so the soonest I'm guessing it would be published would be late-ish 2011.

Ghost Ship is the current work in progress, being the sequel to I Dare (hurrah!). I'm expecting to find Saltation when I get back to work at the bookstore on Monday, Friday having been a lovely day of vacation. I know Tuesday is the 'stated' on-date date, but it's not a strict one.

Borders in Milpitas, CA had one paperback copy of Fledgling- which I bought! Also, the San Jose Public Library has 6 copies of Saltation on order, so I am number 3 on the hold list. :)

I read the final version of Fledgling just last month when it came in to the library, after following the draft version week-by-week. I enjoyed the draft version, but was disappointed that the new story seemed to lack the complexity and richness I expected from a Lee and Miller book. I was pleasantly surprised with the final version! The book was so much more satisfying, with back-story added and loose plot ends tied together. I guess I didn't realize how much revision was going to add to the final book. Thank you, Sharon and Steve, for the hours of pleasure your books have given me in the ten years since I picked up a creased copy of Conflict of Honors tucked on the shelf of a used book store.
