What prompted you to read Half-Magic? I loved it when I read it as a child, did you read it as a kid?

I think I read Til We Have Faces and the Edgar Magic books in my early teens. Both made strong impressions on me.

Sunshine's Sunshine made me want to sit down and talk baking with her. First time I've had that reaction to a character in a book.

I wanted something to read to Steve in the hospital while he was waiting for the various doctors to get organized. I'd read it a long, long time ago and remembered it as amusing and a good read-out-loud book. Turned out I remembered right. Once we started, we had to finish, of course, one chapter a night.

Amazon UK have sent me Saltation, only a few days after the original estimate (and after their dire warnings of "we don't know, might be soon, might be end of the month, might be next month").

So, I'm reading something else at the moment and I ought to finish that, and then probably reread Fledgling, then Saltation. And after that I'll have several more new books to read...

I haven't re-read Half Magic in years, but I always found it a great comfort read.

I had a job as a library page when I was in high school, mainly shelving books in the children's room. (Beat the heck out of "would you like fries with that?" But I digress.) One day when another page and I were shelving, a lady came in looking for a book for her child to read. Usually we referred these to the children's librarian's, naturally enough, but none was present at the time. The two of us agreed on a recommendation of Edward Eager; we found this interesting because that was almost the only overlap in our reading tastes.
