I haven't re-read Half Magic in years, but I always found it a great comfort read.

I had a job as a library page when I was in high school, mainly shelving books in the children's room. (Beat the heck out of "would you like fries with that?" But I digress.) One day when another page and I were shelving, a lady came in looking for a book for her child to read. Usually we referred these to the children's librarian's, naturally enough, but none was present at the time. The two of us agreed on a recommendation of Edward Eager; we found this interesting because that was almost the only overlap in our reading tastes.
