1.  Saltation, the Second Book of Theo Waitley, published by Baen Books in hardcover with a street date of April 13, 2010, sold out at the warehouse before the subscriber copies were shipped to Maine.

1a.  The authors are aware that the book has been for sale from bookstores for A Really, Really Long Time

1b.  The authors are also aware that subscriber copies have not yet been mailed

1c.  Really, they are

2. Upon learning of the sell-out, Baen Books immediately ordered a new printing of Saltation.

2a.  It takes time to print books

2b.  It takes time ship books

3.  The subscriber copies of Saltation arrived in Maine on Tuesday, June 8.

3a.  That’s 1200 subscriber copies

4.  Each book must be:

*signed

*packed

*mailed

*in addition, there is considerable database wrangling involved

4a.  The above tasks take time

5.  The authors are going to a convention from June 17 through June 21.

5a.  This has been in the works for a Very Long Time; it is a professional commitment.  While we are away, no books will be processed.

5b.  Had matters gone as originally planned, Saltation would have arrived in Maine at the end of April and we could have begun the process of signing-and-shipping before we left for Oasis.  Conceivably, some folks would have had their books by now.

5c. Pursuant to 1, above, that didn’t happen

6.  We will begin the process of getting the books to subscribers when we return from Duckon

6a.  As with Fledgling and pursuant to 4 and 4a above, the process of getting books to subscribers will take time.  Steve basically does the mailing single-handedly, and mailing 1200 books is non-trivial.

7.  The authors thank you for your understanding.

I recently moved and would like to verify that you have my current mailing address - with all that has been going on, I honestly don't remember if I sent it to you or not. Will you be sending verification emails out as you did with Fledgling? Or is there an email address I should use to send you the updated information?

I was able to borrow Saltation from our library and thoroughly enjoyed the final version. Fingers crossed - Mouse and Dragon should arrive any day and I'm looking forward to it.

Gotcha in my list of COAs -- you sent it to me back mid-May.

Take your time with my copy then. From next week on I'll be three months on the road - so I won't get the book before mid-September anyway.

Take your time with ours too. We'll be thrilled when it comes, but don't want to stress you out on this when you could be writing.

Looks like...Northern Faire? Wish I could blow the picture up and see better, you're making me homesick! "Sinster Dexter Sinster Dexter!" and "Banner-Bearers are Intrinsically Superior!"

Lessee, paid for copy of book to be mailed from authors which will be signed by authors taking up their personal time which must come out of their lives when they actually have things to do which are involved with putting food on their table and paying their bills. huh As for me, I'll expect it when it comes to me, then I get to go "squeeeeee!", and feel like it's an unexpected present.

This.

I admit to having purchased an ebook copy so that I could read it without having to wait. But my choice to do so.

Thanks for the update! I've avoided pestering y'all with questions questions questions - figured you had enough on your plate, and, as you point out, printing, shipping and signing, and RE-shipping, takes Time.

I just finished both Mouse and Dragon and Fledgling (which I had put off until I was fairly certain Saltation was in sight), and I enjoyed them both immensely. Looking forward to reading Saltation when it arrives, in the fullness of time :-)

I spent the money because I liked the idea of your (A) eating regularly and (B) writing the next chapter. The book, when it arrives, will be a bonus. No worries.

I am forced to assume from the existence of this PSA that Someone Has Been Rudely Impatient.

For my part, it will come when it comes. Meantime, it means that you could both eat and write, and possibly even thrive a little.

Oh, and enjoy the convention!

Actually, no. This time it was Sheer Volume. I'd rather have all this in one place and be able either head off another query -- or point to it, should another query land in my in-box -- than have to cut 'n paste the same answer 20 times.

Ah, lots of people being *politely* impatient.

I cannot, for the life of me, decide if that is better or worse!

On the one hand, a single rude person is unpleasant and upsetting, but quickly dealt with, while on the other you have a horde who are quite nice and pleasing to have the attention of, but who Keep Getting In The Way.

I'll expect it when it shows up. No worries. And I hope the rude people stop being rude now. (Alas, I am likely to be disappointed.) Have a great time at the con.

Add me to the list of people you don't need to rush on. I got my grubby hands on an electronic copy within hours of the ARC's availability....

No rush here

I was pleased to find Saltation in the local library, so I've read and enjoyed the text, and now await my shelf copy with patience. I'm glad to have supported writing the book.

(Also really enjoyed M&D. Thanks for several good reads within the past month.)

Congratulations!!! Not that many hardcover books sell out like that, especially that quickly. Hopefully, it impressed the publisher.

No problem - when your original missive came with the happy news of sellout, my inner completist had me hie to the nearest store to purchase a first printing copy. I made them haul it out of the mysterious "back" in the hope that such enthusiasm would prompt a store re-order. So I have enjoyed same and will be bringing it to Re-Construction for signing and can compose myself to wait patiently for your mailing. M & D is ordered and coming with another book with a later release date.

No problem from my point of view. Just finished reading Mouse and Dragon and really enjoyed the bitter sweet story. Knowing it had a sad side to the story going in, I was still really moved by the whole arc. Thank you both for all the years of enjoyment your stories have given me and I am looking forward to many more.

Add me to the list of people not joggling your elbow. I'll treasure the signed copy when it comes but I got the ebook straight away so I wouldn't be deprived in the meantime.

Eager anticipation is still okay, right? 'Cause I can hardly wait - but the wait adds to the desire and when it finally comes, all the sweeter. Besides, the longer I put off the end of Saltation, the closer the NEXT "rest of the story" will be, yes?

Um, has there been any hintage as to the topic of Ghost Ship yet? (I've been a little distracted lately....)

One assumes the Ghost Ship that has been dogging Theo in Saltation? Having also picked up a copy at the local library (in hopes that they will now order the rest of the story arc) I find myself dancing with impatience for GS because Win Ton's state of health concerns me greatly! Silly reader. It will come when it comes and eagerly anticipated it is. Jenny from CO

I didn't wait, either, so no rush sending it to me. I figure it's GOOD to have two copies! And I loved Mouse and Dragon, looking forward to Ghost Ship.
